well, the same goes for david?s side, I just can?t imagine Roger singing songs like Breath, or Fat Old Sun, and Dave?s voice can also be rough like in "Not Now John" or "Run Like Hell", but most important, I think their voices complement each other, that?s what?s so great about this band. for example, "Hey You" is just amazing with both voices, but I also stick with what I first said, I like David?s voice better, especially these days where Roger?s voice has decreased its quality, and Dave?s seems just intact.....IMO

in short:
Dave's voice is smoother
Roger's is more expressive
Dave's voice has a warm haunting quality that is a distinctive trait in many of their most classic songs
esp stuff like Breathe, Echoes, and Cymbaline
he sounds almost ghostly on those ones, giving them a spooky occult vibe
I think he's best suited to Roger's most world-weary type lyrics
such as Time or Comfortably Numb
but other songs where he has to exhibit a bit of passion, eg Young Lust, he's not so convincing
I actually dont think he has much range, but the range he has is very effective

I think the issue is getting a little confused here. The issue isn't "who is the better singer," the question posed by Charade was "who's got the best voice?" The two questions really are quite different if you think about it. Dave, Roger, and Rick are all excellent singers, and PF would hardly be the same without them.
But in my opinion, Dave's got the best voice. Roger uses his voice brilliantly, but the "fact" remains, his voice isn't that good. It's fairly hard on the ears, and you can hear his voice wavering at times on The Wall, The Final Cut, and Amused to Death. The brilliant part about it is how he uses that to add effect to the song.

First post btw...Someone said it earlier that they both compliment each other. They both of course have different singing styles and it works on the songs they sing.
But I would go with David having the better voice. He can hit the high notes, sing softly and sing rough. He can pretty much do it all when it comes to singing.

In my opinion, David is by far the better vocalist. I don't think Roger really was cut out to be a singer. Roger has an extremely limited range. David can handle a sweeter style like on Wish You Were Here to a more grittier style like on Young Lust. Roger couldn't handle either style particular well. Roger also displays limited emotion. He can display insanity and anger but he could not display the opposite end of the spectrum.
I quite enjoy Roger's voice on some songs, but he has the benefit of "studio magic" on these songs. He doesn't sound nearly as good live. He is often times off-key. In fact, I once heard he was tone deaf which would make sense because he can really struggle live.

They are both great singers, but while Dave's voice may be technically better in some respects, I still prefer Roger's, but's it's all down to personal opinion. David's voice is alot clearer and stronger and he seems to be able to hold it alot longer. But there are times when david's voice is somewhat bland and emotionless in my opinion, compared to Roger atleast. I think the songs sound truer, and more emotional when when they come from Roger. He really knows what he's singing about since he wrote almost all the lyrics. There's been a couple of times listening to Roger sing where i have literally cried, because the emotional impact is so heavy. The only song that comes even close to doing that to me with Dave is maybe Hey You. Roger also does the angst thing well on songs like Sheep, and I love all the screams, wild laughter and sound effects that he adds on certain songs. Like on CWTAU or the live version of Run like hell. I do a little singing myself and i don't now how the hell he does some of that stuff with his voice. He does have a very good vocal range too. ANyway just some of my thoughts.
