Favourite solo track = Terrapin. I listened to it this morning and it is so lovely, tender and fragile. I like to think it encapsulates the essence of Syd more than all the bizarre stories.
Favourite Syd PF track = Astronomy Dominee. For me, everything that was exciting about the early Floyd is brought out in the "Look Of The Week" live version of this track. As someone said, we were witnessing the dawn of spacerock.
Favourite Syd songs?

I almost agree. I'm just not that harsh upon his solo efforts, but it's just me...my breakfast. wrote:I only like the stuff off Piper at the Gates of Dawn. The solo stuff is unlistenably unstructured erratic stuff.
Astronomy Domine! Best moment. That and Interstellar.
I think his genius revealed itself best with the band - where I love ALL of his songs, incl Vegetable Man and STLS, - but it might have been any other band too. The point is his genious needed A BAND. He alone went completely out of control, I mean nobody was there to give their own ideas so that his songs sounded better (IMHO , - I just don't like purely or almost purely acoustic guitar stuff AS MUCH as a band's stuff, be it any band; same thing with soloists)
ah yes, Effervescing Elephant (don't look at me like that, - this is only an exception)

Why Must We Always Have To Have A Choice..?
...another one about "Choice" thread!
I liked all the songs of "Piper".I agree with Roger Waters that Syd Barrett should not be compared to Bowie for the Space,Astronauts,ET songs, cause he only wrote 2 songs about it, "Astronomy Domine & Interstellar Overdrive".
My top on the all of Syd's list are :-
(You can also watch'em on my pl at YouTube)
-------------------------------------------------------------
# Terrapin
## -JUGBAND BLUES.
## Astronomy Domine.
###A Tribute :Newsnight. Its a showcase of best ones of Syd's song.
#### MAISIE (Bad Luck Bride Of A Bull)
##### Wouldn't You Miss ME ( this one is the one I will never forget....)

I once made a "Best of Syd Barrett" playlist, designed to fit on one disc. I think of it more highly than Wouldn't You Miss Me, as it includes Floyd stuff. It looks something like this:
1. Astronomy Domine (mono)
2. Baby Lemonade
3. Dark Globe (Opel)
4. Flaming
5. Wolfpack
6. Jugband Blues
7. No Good Trying
8. Dominoes
9. Arnold Layne
10. Octopus
11. Candy And A Currant Bun
12. Here I Go
13. Opel
14. Apples And Oranges
15. Terrapin
16. See Emily Play
17. Gigolo Aunt
18. Vegetable Man
19. Bob Dylan Blues
20. Long Gone
21. Scream Thy Last Scream
22. Golden Hair
23. Bike
(hidden track). "I think that was okay." (1975 Session)
And to promote it, release a single of Vegetable Man. As the B-side, have an isolated vocal track of it placed over a rap drum/bass/synth sequence. It'll top the charts, I swear.
