I don't mean to sound odd or anyting but I heard from somebody that Roger is not very nice to his fans? Is that true or a lie?

I live on Long Island in NY. Roger has a house out in the Hamptons somewhere. My friend owns the landscaping company that maintains his property there. Unfortunately, according to my friend, he's an asshole.
I've heard this from another friend whos a pilot and has flawn Roger and his crew during the In The Flesh tour.

Hey, maybe i'm getting the wrong end of the stick but i was giving a very breif summeary there, not trying to be funny or nothing. Having had te disadvantage of not hearing to many pink floyd live recordings nor seeing them live with Roger i can't judge him properly but that spitting incidents will have began the rumour as a pointed out.mosespa wrote:Mlahahahahahahahahahaha...that's funny, guy.
Seriously...I can't wipe the smirk off my face (I'm trying not to laugh out loud since the wife is sleeping.)

Maybe because you are shorter than him?Libby74D wrote:I hate mean people so why did I look up to him?

What I thought showed his sense of humour even more than ITF (which I thought actually showed him to be rather warm as opposed to funny) was The Wall commentary on the DVD. Listening to him and Scarfe, I felt like I was watching Mystery Science Theatre or something.Neil wrote:Roger seems like a very reasonable person to me; he's got a sense of humour like everyone else.. Just watch the ITF documentary if yers don't believe me!

I have met a lot of musicians in my day. I have been continuously disappointed. But one thing I have learned is this:Libby74D wrote:so I am right. Oh great. I hate mean people so why did I look up to him? I am a dumbass.![]()
NEVER CONFUSE THE ARTIST WITH THE ART.

That being said...I have a friend who's in the business who knows Roger, and says he's a nice guy. You can really never listen to what people say, because on a day that one person met him, he might've been sick, or tired, or in a bad mood because of something personal, etc. etc. etc. Not everyone is nice ALL THE TIME. Then another person will have another account about how wonderful he was. You really never can tell.
Besides, it's not that you're emulating Roger the person. You don't have to be like him at all. You don't even have to LIKE him. Whatever the music means to you, individually, is all that matters.

I'm sure every one of us has people who we've met who think we're wonderful, and other people we've met who think we're complete jerks. So much depends on what sort of standards the meeter is looking for. Sometimes it's just a complete clash of personality types, sometimes it's a misunderstanding of a sense of humor. And sometimes they're all just stories, the composer of the story having a certain agenda (either to make someone look good or bad). There is no way I can believe the story that the landscaper told that roger is an ****** any more than I can believe the story that SMG's friend told that he is nice, and neither can I believe a story that someone told once about someone they knew who met Gilmour in a restaurant. It's all just hearsay...3rd party, 4th party, he said she said. The only thing any of us who has not met them personally can do is to appreciate their music and to gather what we want to from that.
One last thing, if someone in a band, formerly in a band, or the entire band bothers you and you find them distasteful for whatever reason, just move on and let it go. I've seen things (not just with Pink Floyd) that I've found a bit disturbing on the extent to which "fans" obsess over how much someone bothers them.
Just remember, nobody's perfect.

Roger is really nice, but, most famous people, especially musicans, find fans who scream and pester them for autographs, to be very disrespectful and annoying. These people want to be treated as people, and if you mob, ask for autographs and stuff, there is a good chance you may get spat on...Anyway, no one, except of course, the fan who roger, assumingly spat on, wether he did or not. You hear this about everyone, and yes, being famous does make you become rather, egotistical...And, any fan who screams and jumps around and askes for autograph's is considered an idiot to famous people. They'd much rather have you talk to them about intelligent matters, and not about thier music...I've hung around musicans and such like all my life, because my dad is a musician and has worked wiht some people, and, they do not, do not, like being treated any different...So, that's probably why Roger did it, if in fact he did do it....No one knows.....
