Syd on the Radio/Beeb???

Post by dale74 »

Anyone know of any other Syd solo radio appearances that were broadcast other than the classic John Peel Sessions that are in circulation ???

He only ever did 2 solo radio sessions, one in February 1970, and another in February 1971, and both are available officially, albiet in pretty poor quality in the case of the 1971 session.

What was the 1971 session?

Was that for Peel also?

I don't believe the 1971 sessions had anything to do with John Peel, but I may be wrong. My understanding is that Syd played three songs from the Barrett album and the intent was to encourage sales of the album.

Thanks for the details.

What is the title of the "officially available" 1971 recording? And what tracks did he play and were any Floyd members in the band?

I don't think I ever came across it.

Nobody seems to know who played what during the 1971 session, although it seems likely that David Gilmour is on bass. FWIW, apparently nobody seems to have a clue who played on Syd's solo recording sessions from 1968 either, although Steve "Peregrine" Took's name seems to be bandied about quite a lot.

I'd love to know who played bass on the 1968 solo sessions. I'd also love to hear a mix of Swan Lee with the original 1968 vocals..

Avoid the official BBC disc with the 1971 session as a bonus. There are MUCH better quality versions of that session that circulate..
