Richard Wright Funeral Details....

Post by Keith Jordan »

Has anybody heard anything about the arrangements for Rick Wright's funeral? Did he live in London? Will it be held somewhere in London do you think? :(

I think the funeral allready took place... I mean, it's been a week or so.
It was some private ceremony with just friends and family ...probably.
I dont think that it would be turned into a media event.

I know in England they tend to wait about a week or so before they have a funeral. Here in Ireland, they plant you before you have a chance to get out of the coffin

A week?
Blimey... Thats a bit too long ...at least for my understanding of the whole thing.
We bury our dead within 2-3 days max.

I think catholics in this country wait for the next available Friday. If that takes a week or two, then so be it. The body can lay in a funeral directors palce or someones house for the family and friends to go and see if the body is not in a terrible state from an accident.

Not if it has been embalmed shortly after death and makeup applied. My aunts body was a couple of weeks old when I saw it 6 months ago and she had had a post mortem examination too. She looked fine. The embalming made her look 20 years younger!

The whole idea of showing the dead to the family sounds perverted to me, especially the embalming to keep them looking as fresh as a dead person can be for a longer amount of time, until all of the relatives have seen the body. I know about numerous traditions concerning showing the dead to the family, even in my country, and some them even consider that everyone who comes to the funeral kisses the body in the forehead! That sounds almost like necrophillia to me. Then again, it may sound strange just to me since my family has a tradition of closed casket service, but still preserving the dead body and then burying it after a couple of weeks sounds at least like an uneccessary expense.

I've a feeling they cremated him. I don't think Rick or his family would have wanted his grave to turn into a minor tourist attraction. His funeral was probably as low-key and private as his death.

If somebody is unfortunate to pass away over the Christmas holidays you are looking a 2 and a half-3 weeks. One of my uncles died one christmas eve, his funeral was not until the 10th of January

Anyway to decrease the risk of this thread getting too morbid, I'm sure they said goodbye to Rick in a way he would have liked.

In some parts of italy they dig um up after two years as burial land is at a premium. Apparently they are still a bit juicy at that time.

With regards to Rick its probably already happened

I do wish that as fans that we could have atleast have some kind of outlet for how we all feel. From time to time i keep pinching myself that he has actually died and that Pink Floyd is now officially over and yes i know this forum is a place where we do have some kind of outlet but oh i don't know.....all just seems a bit like 'oh well, lets all move on and forget about it'.
It just all seemed to pass by in an instant, i don't think anyone knew he was indeed ill and i don't honestly know why in a way i am harping on about some musician but then again, he wasn't just 'some musician' as his music shaped our lives and spoke to us on a different level, kept us company in our teenage years and into adulthood......argh it's still so hard to get your head around isn't it !
