Re: David Is Selling his Guitars
Me too. It raises more questions than it answers. Such as
- Is he retiring? (Or worse?)
- Will he buy back some of these guitars?
- What's the story with the Their Mortal Remains exhibition? I thought it was supposed to run for 5 years.
Time will tell, I suppose. I hope it's not the end of an era and that he's pulling the curtain down on his music career.

Re: David Is Selling his Guitars
I guess he doesn't bother with them any more. I guess you can have too many guitars. Who knew!
He has been using a new red one recently?
We should all chip in a buy one. I will keep hold of it on behalf of the community.

Agreed, a surprising announcement ... maybe the sale agreement will ring-fence any guitars that are currently touring the world as part of 'The Mortal Remains' exhibition (Note ... Dortmund closes on 10 Feb).

Odds are all so much with Dave will donate the money to something. He's earned the right to do as he wishes with them seeing how he has given us so with them. All I can say is I hope they bring more than ever hoped for, good wishes Dave.

I'm sure he can afford to buy a new one or two
As for the exhibition, I hope they are ring-fenced for that. I loved getting to see all those guitars in person in London (made the trip over especially to go to the V&A) and I'm sure there are many more fans around the world who would appreciate that opportunity too.

Re: David Is Selling his Guitars
This is big surprise. I didn't know he had that many guitars, I knew he had a lot, but not that many!!! There is an estimate for The Black Strat and The #0001 Strat of $100,000-$150,000 . But I have a feeling they will go for more than that. I am sure he will either have some left over, or just buy some new ones. He still has the touch and feeling in his hands, so any guitar will sound like Gilmour when he plays it.

Yes, my first thought, too.
Maybe/hopefully he's hanging onto 'The Workmate' for recording purposes!
I'll be very sad if he's calling it a day - although it's his decision and life.

Has he sold off all of his tools? As long as he still has some, we can hope for new music.drafsack wrote: Thu Jan 31, 2019 9:22 pm yes its strange to be selling off all of your tools especially the heritage associated with them

He says that while there is no timeline, that he hopes he'll get around to recording some new music at some time.

Re: David Is Selling his Guitars
David has historically been very generous when it comes to charitable contributions. I believe he once sold a house and donated the money to a homeless charity. What a decent chap.
The $100k - £150k estimate for the black strat is laughable. There are people out there to whom that is change behind the sofa (I'm not one of them unfortunately). An oil sheik would pay upwards of $1M without thinking for something unique that can't be ordinarily purchased elsewhere.
I do wonder if Roger will put in any bids?

Re: David Is Selling his Guitars
The details are within the links etc, but I will post here anyway -
The auction is in New York on 20th June, but you can view the guitars in person in London from 27th to 31st March 2019 at Christie’s King Street. They will then fly off to Los Angeles for viewing 7th to 11th May then New York for viewing 14th to 19th June. There apparently will be a ‘sound experience’ provided by Sennheiser.
I think a trip to London will need to be planned.

Re: David Is Selling his Guitars
It's coinciding nicely with the closing of Their Mortal Remains in Dortmund too.
