"Between Two Points" has had a primer video on YouTube. So I think that cover of The Montgolfier Brothers (a band formed in 1999 I hadn't heard of!) track will be the next to get a video before the album is released.

It's a cover version but I prefer The Piper's Call.

It's very mid-2005's Radio2.

Not quite sure what the significance of The Kings Arms pub in Salford is in the video but it is rather an arty and performance kind of place. Also, I like the “black cat” sticker on Gilmour’s “black strat” guitar.

I like Between Two Points, and Romany's voice is nice. To my ear it's very much not Pink Floyd at all, with the exception of the guitar solo. It looks to me as if the album will be similarly not Floydish.
There is, as mentioned, the black cat sticker on the black strat guitar. There's also a track on the album called 'Black Cat', so I'm expecting lots of guitar.

Re: Polly confirms new album for David Gilmour
Indeed I'm looking forward to hearing the rest of the album. Its a David Gilmour album I guess and not a Pink Floyd one. Although the last 45 seconds of the extended version of the song sound very much like the Division Bell sessions. Perhaps there is some kind of crossover between that and Rick Wrights passing.
The video was directed by Gavin Elder who also filmed Gdansk and Pompeii I think and the videos that went with On An Island.
The video is filmed on the steps next to the Elder Press Café. I wonder if he is connected with the café?
The video also takes us to the The Kings Arms pub in Salford where I will be having a pint on Wednesday. Roger Quigley, one half of the Montgolfier Brothers who wrote the song, had his studio in the King’s Arms.

It's just Dave being Dave, he's happy in his own skin.

I find the track very nice. The music is well put together and super smooth. Love guitar at the end. I think Romany has a great voice and definitely a good call to let her sing this one.

Isn't the release date for the album, 6th September, Roger Waters' birthday?

That could be "coincidence".
I'm looking forward to it apparently not as sounding Floydian as parts (or all!) of "Rattle That Lock".
I definitely prefer the two new songs after a recent RTL listen.

Yes, I haven't followed David Gilmour's music very closely since On an Island (which I mostly really liked), but am curious about this new album now. 'Between Two Points' is an interesting and intriguing choice of song and I certainly consider the Montgolfier Brothers (as well as At Swim Two Birds, another project from Roger Quigley) as one of the better bands of the past twenty or so years; so it also would seem generous of DG to platform them (if that is part of his intention).Annoying Twit wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2024 11:25 pm I like Between Two Points, and Romany's voice is nice. Also interesting that Anton Corbijn is involved with the visual side of this project - as my impression is there's long been an (intergenerational) dialogue between people like Corbijn, Peter Saville (Factory records designer) and Hipgnosis/ Storm Thorgeson, most notably the High Hopes video which surely references Corbijn's 1988 video for Joy Division's Atmosphere?
Nice to see DG keeping with the times, pre-empting the various youtube and other vloggers with his own Explainer clip being released shortly before the full song:

Re PF: I agree it's not incrediby Floyd-y and it's interesting to read the text below those youtube clips, suggesting DG is enjoying the creative process, finding new avenues (in his late 70s) and not feeling burdened by the past.
That said, I suppose it is natural at his age to be in reflective mode, and I tend to think one of the qualities that has made David G such an exceptional musician across the decades is his ability to harness a particular melancholic, reflective power - the soaring, lyrical quality of his guitar solos in say, Time, Comfortably Numb or Sorrow and the pensive, melancholy of Comfortably Numb's music or High Hopes for instance.
I'm feeling that Between Two Points is one of those musical career summits like High Hopes or On the Turning Away (well maybe I'm just a sucker for a power ballad, or whatever to call it..)
Despite the unexpected arrival of 'Hey Hey Rise Up', I should think it's fairly unlikely that Pink Floyd will release any more new music or regroup for any more live performances under that moniker at this stage - Annoying Twit, your comment has made me ponder, obviously there's no rule saying that PF couldn't play or record with Romany Gilmour as main vocalist, but I tend to think sadly that'd risk a backlash from bitter old Pink Floyd fans or members (hope that isn't too provocative to post on this forum... I personally feel Nick Mason's SOS project and Roger Water's passion and commitment for the Palestinian cause certainly have merit also).
Cool to hear this played on Jeremy Vine's radio 2 show last week ('his voice has changed though!' https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m002033y at 1:47)
Re: Black Cat/Strat - also has reminded me I was trying to remember what that black armband thing DG is wearing is? I have an inkling it's a health-related device of some sort?

I didn't know it was Anton Corjbin doing the visuals for Dave. But, in hindsight it looks obvious. It's interesting that Dave is working with a variety of people, and the result looks new for DG.

Short video of Dave explaining Luck And Strange https://youtube.com/shorts/6_SdvZW6czA? ... tsjRLek5ef
It was built on a 2006 jam with Rick Wright. Might be the next track to get uploaded? Video doesn't really show us much.
