I'm still of the opinion that any statements from former bandmates about the quality of Roger's re-recording shouldn't be seen as much more than PR. It's certainly not dissuading my skepticism about the project. Though it would be nice to be proved wrong here.
Annoying Twit wrote: Sat Jun 03, 2023 3:56 pm In my opinion David is a very good songwriter.
Gilmour's songwriting is a little uneven. I do believe he's a bit hard on himself, but he's not always the best. The lyrics for "The Dogs of War" are pretty silly, for example. But he's still pretty strong. "Where We Start" is a beautiful song. "Sorrow" has some pretty strong imagery. Heck if we go older, "Fat Old Sun" is quite good.
My thing is though Waters is not exactly the greatest songwriter of all time either. True, his lyrics for everything between "Echoes" to Animals are fantastic. Of that there is no doubt. But somewhere around The Wall he traded his clever touch with heavy-handedness, and everything he's written since has been steeped in that.

I agree about Fat Old Sun and Sorrow. Sorrow you can easily close your eyes and picture what he is singing about cold war vibes in that song.

Back to the topic - do we know when to expect Roger Water's TDSOTM in record stores (especially on vinyl)? Any news? There was a lot of hype about it in March but now I find silence...

Good question.

When we discussed it on the podcast, I stated I wouldn't buy it.

But after The Lockdown Sessions....My resolve is crumbling.

I won't be buying it without hearing it first, and even then only if it's something extraordinary.

That line is the closest I've ever been to saying "what the hell" out loud to a song.

Sorrow is a masterpiece and he's extended that masterpiece in live versions. Same goes for High Hopes. His lyrics are great too. Roger's lyrics are stuffed with loads of pompous word sallad.

I was feeling ignorant because I don't know when it will be released as I've been distracted from life (just back from Jakarta).

However, it seems that nobody else knows when it will be released either. I thought it was being released in July.

EDIT: Was being prepared for release in May, this article says. https://www.theguardian.com/music/2023/ ... f-the-moon

My guess is lots of legal issues and part due to the feud between Roger, Polly & David

That wouldn't surprise me as a (co)songwriter can exercise his right NOT to allow his work to be featured on a release...
