I'm still of the opinion that any statements from former bandmates about the quality of Roger's re-recording shouldn't be seen as much more than PR. It's certainly not dissuading my skepticism about the project. Though it would be nice to be proved wrong here.twcc wrote: Sun Jun 04, 2023 2:56 pm I asked Nick, today, about the Roger version and he said it was "terrific, and it will be released".
Gilmour's songwriting is a little uneven. I do believe he's a bit hard on himself, but he's not always the best. The lyrics for "The Dogs of War" are pretty silly, for example. But he's still pretty strong. "Where We Start" is a beautiful song. "Sorrow" has some pretty strong imagery. Heck if we go older, "Fat Old Sun" is quite good.
My thing is though Waters is not exactly the greatest songwriter of all time either. True, his lyrics for everything between "Echoes" to Animals are fantastic. Of that there is no doubt. But somewhere around The Wall he traded his clever touch with heavy-handedness, and everything he's written since has been steeped in that.
