Dark Side of the Wall (Floyd Tribute)

Post by Annoying Twit »

And, my third concert in three days. I got confused and turned up to the gig one hour early. But, the sound check was being performed, and they were playing the solo of WYWH, and then the intro to Pigs (Three Different Ones). Both sounded excellent, and from videos this band is vocally strong. I know it isn't Floyd, but I am really looking forward to this.

Edit So far very good indeed. I have now heard Echoes played live twice in the last three days.

Edit again, a very good concert. The band used to do more Gilmour-era songs, but someone (whom I was talking to) asked them to do fewer. They did Sorrow, Talk to Me, and Coming Back to Life. The last was dedicated to one of the band members who had to take time out of the band due to health issues.

They did most of DSotM, missing out only On the Run and Any Colour you Like. The lead vocalist and the keyboard player did many of the 'voices' live, which was interesting to see. For The Happiest Days of our Lives, the lead vocalist did the teacher voice very well, and that was greatly appreciated and responded to by the audience. The only song from Animals was Pigs (Three Different Ones) which went down well. I noted that the (single) female backing vocalist used some sort of harmoniser device to multiply her voice for the backing vocals. Her performance of TGGitS went down very well.

There was the occasional bum note played with the bass player going on their own little side-track during part of Comfortably Numb, but overall the songs were played very well. Particularly the guitar solos which reproduced the originals very well. The guitarist departed more from the originals when using his talkbox. At the start of one talkbox sample, the talkbox wasn't working and buttons were pressed and then it did.

Including the other tribute act I went to, there's a lot more of a lighter feel than I see at 'big' concerts by big-name artists. E.g. if there's a bum note everyone laughs. And, I felt a much more lighter I would call it 'cooperative' feel between the audience and the band. Including the band going outside during the intermission and mingling with the audience. Not like a 'meet and greet', just being out there like regular people.

Part of the reason I'm going to these concerts this week is because I got absolutely nowhere near getting tickets to see Dave. At least I've seen quite a bit of PF music this week. And have enjoyed it. I'll buy whatever media Dave releases of the current tour such as a Blu-ray or digital download if there is one.

Now I wonder what I can see next week.
