Yogi Lang _No Decoder_ and Floyd-like Music

Post by Annoying Twit »

I've just received Yogi Lang's album _No Decoder_ in the post. Just a triviality, I think this is the biggest box I've ever received a single CD in. Certainly well packed.

The music is great. As is the modern world, I'd heard the album before I bought it. (If we don't buy music, music will at least be stunted).

Just a comment about the style. The music is deeply PF influenced.

As often seems to be the case for modern PF influenced music, it sounds very much post-Waters Floyd influenced to me. I note this a lot.

There have been other discussions here - that some people discovered PF through the Gilmour era, and how DG's solo albums are out-selling Waters. On top of this, when musicians are influenced by Floyd, it seems that it's often more DG influence, and for Lang clearly the very (to my ears) Wright style keyboards.

Some of this may be due to technology. Modern music is often made with modern technology and this sounds the case for _No Decoder_. And since DG era PF was the last era of PF, the highest technology was used. But even then, I think there is a general musical influence. And Guy Pratt plays on the album, but I'm sure that experienced producer Lang was firmly in control of the overall sound.

I can't think of an album by an artist that apes _The Final Cut_. I'm sure there are some out there. But, it seems to be Gilmour who is the most influential among the music I hear. Of course, I may be listening to the wrong music - recommendations would be appreciated.
