David Gilmour - Luck and Strange Review
David Gilmour Luck and Strange Reviews are coming in thick and fast following the listening party in London last week. I have only heard 3 songs so far so cannot offer my own review or recommendation. That said, I have started a thread where, at an appropriate time, you can leave your review. Perhaps you will review the first three songs from it thus far. Perhaps you will wait.

Re: David Gilmour - Luck and Strange Review
it's good to see that someone likes it with a 4/5 being the only vote at the time I write this. Looking forward to hearing the whole thing tonight. I'm staying up until midnight in the hope that it will be on Spotify at 12:01am.

I’m not going to give it a rating because, honestly, this album just doesn’t resonate with me. I wasn’t a fan of On An Island or Rattle That Lock either. That said, ‘Between Two Points’ is definitely the standout track here, easily the best on the album. The rest, though? Just not my style.

very atmospheric and beautifully arranged, very ethereal, dreamy and excellent songs. Thanks Dave!

Life got in the way a bit, but I've heard the whole album. I'm enjoying much of what I'm hearing. I'm not yet ready to give a full review.
I note that on Wikipedia it's said that Gilmour intends to record another album with the same musicians soon after the upcoming tour. That would be great, though I am sure he said something similar about getting another album out quickly after RtL was released. Feeling hopeful, but I'm not holding my breath.

Much of David’s solo work usually takes a while to grow on me. At first listen though the 3 singles were the strongest showing on the album I really like Dark and Velvet Nights. The second half of Scattered is excellent. I’d say it’s consistent with his other albums, bits of amazing music with lyrics that are often hard to get behind.

Going to agree with @YetAnother; in that 'Between 2 Points" is - easily - the best track on the album. Luck and Strange and Scattered in the other podium positions. I think it's a solid effort by Dave. 4/5

It seems Dave"s Luck and Strange is the most popular album on Progarchives.com at this moment.

I'm also not going to give it a rating, as I listened to it once, and have no desire to listen to it again. The only solo album of his that I enjoy is the self-titled 1978 album.
I am glad that so many people seem to like this new one, and I hope everyone going to the shows has a great time.

this album gets better and better in each listen, strongly recommend trying it more if the first impressions weren't the best

Re: David Gilmour - Luck and Strange Review
I think Gilmour’s solo stuff would fare much better if he ditched Samson as a writer and went with sparse lyrics and more soundscapes. Just stick to what you know. Conventionality doesn’t suit him. His best work was David Gilmour and a return to that would be welcome.

lol I agree with this entire statement. It’s really a good record. I think Scattered is one of his best songs everEclips wrote: Thu Sep 26, 2024 10:28 pm this album gets better and better in each listen, strongly recommend trying it more if the first impressions weren't the best

Re: David Gilmour - Luck and Strange Review
This one was a bit of a grower for me I have to admit, but after a couple of listens I've really fallen in love with it.
I think I'm moved to agree. But my favourite on this album has to be "Between Two Points". Romany has a beautiful voice.
