I know what you mean. A bit too polished and rather bland? I certainly wouldn't put On An Island in that category though. For me, that is his best work.YetAnother wrote: Thu Sep 05, 2024 7:23 pm I’m not going to give it a rating because, honestly, this album just doesn’t resonate with me. I wasn’t a fan of On An Island or Rattle That Lock either. That said, ‘Between Two Points’ is definitely the standout track here, easily the best on the album. The rest, though? Just not my style.

* * (two stars)
I gave this album a few months to grow on me...But, no.....just no. I don't like it that much. It's just a little more polished On an Island bore party. I can't quite pinpoint the reason why this album isn't connecting with me, but there's something that isn't sitting. right for me. Maybe, it's a tone off Gilmour's solos which evokes just a lazy, boring basking in the sun. Maybe, it's his voice? He's gotten older, and while he can still hold a tune, there's a gruffness to his timbre that feels at odds to his solos and song's melodies.

Re: David Gilmour - Luck and Strange Review
I don’t know how I’d feel about it if it had already been there, like most of their music when I first got into Pink Floyd. Or even if it had been new in the '90s. Now, there’s so much more music to listen to, so I’m less inclined to try hard to like it, so to speak.moodyblue wrote: Thu Dec 26, 2024 10:40 am I know what you mean. I also get the sense that he worked harder to make it the best he could when he was younger, perhaps because he was less confident in his own abilities back then.

Even though I'm sitting in a room with about 1500 vinyl records....
Luck and Strange is still on regular rotation...Mick Mars, Ace Frehley, and Bruce Dickinson didn't get that....

Re: David Gilmour - Luck and Strange Review
Gilmour hyped up "Luck and Strange" with phrases such as "My best work since Dark Side of the Moon" and "a new direction for my music". Sorry DavId, even the quite average Rattle That Lock is much better album.

Re: David Gilmour - Luck and Strange Review
I was underwhelmed at first but now when listening to it I really enjoy Luck and Strange. It's extremely well produced which makes it a sonic joy listening to it. I wouldn't say it has DG's strongest tunes (the instrumentals for instance are nothing extra, the instrumentals on Rattle That Lock were way better) but as a whole it's nothing but a great album.
