New Syd recording found!!!!!!!!

Post by qjamesfloyd »

According to Classic Rock magazine,A track called "Singing A Song In The Morning"by Kevin Ayers which features Syd Barrett on guitar is to be released in the spring,it was recorded in December 1969,and is special, because it is Syd's only known guest appearance.According to archivist Mark Powell,"I've listened to around 84 versions of that song, including one that clearly mentions Syd at the start of the take.Yes,there's weird guitar all over it,very wayward, but as a whole,it's supprisingly together"

Who knows everything Syd might have worked on(he surely don't),but if anything new does come up that's good.

Actually, officially released in mid 70's on Harvest Records Kevin Ayers Odd Ditties. I have it and it sez that Kevin is playing guitar but it definitely sounds like (AND IS) Syd.

Why would anyone hate you for not knowing who Kevin Ayers is?

He's a musician. You've probably heard of the band Soft Machine. He left them in 1968 and then attempted to form a band with Syd in 1969, but was unable to track him down. He wrote a song about Syd in 1972 called "Oh! What a Dream." They knew one another, but I don't know if I would say he was a "friend" of Syd's...

Didn't Mike play bass for Ayres in the late sixties and/or early seventies? Ahh, I love multi-instrumentalists. Jealous o' 'em, tho'. :?

Other Syd stuff

Post by Stiggs »

I have a couple of rare Syd tracks. One In A Million is a pretty phat sounding song, but the sound quality I have it on is really poor...you can hear the music fine but the vocals sound horrible.
Another one I have is "Celestial Voices", but I believe that's just the end part of A Saucerful of Secrets.
Moonhead and Murderistic Women are okay songs, too. I believe they are also Syd songs, but I'm not exactly sure.
And where's "Rain In The Country" from?
