Paul Auster - Sunset Park

It's nice so far. I'm only up to page 88.

Really? I liked Sophie's World very much. :?

That said, I have never really given up on any book I've read, but if I can't read it easily and divide my reading into periods - sometimes I may continue a book after some weeks or so. I find this particularly useful with books of longer length, as well as poetry (as short as poetry sometimes seems to be, serious reading of poetry is no joke; you must have a high level of focus and to appreciate any literate, must be drawn into the book).

I have ordered for Siddhartha by Herman Hesse. I think it's related to Buddhism and spirituality.

I've also noticed quite some love for William S Burroughs here. I may check him out.

PS: Can we include our reviews on this thread?

I finished it and really enjoyed it, but I have to say the last couple of pages sucked.

Spanish Steps: Travels With My Donkey by Tim Moore ... brilliantly funny ... I love Moore's dry wit, observations and descriptions. Easily on on par with Bill Bryson in the funny travel writer category - maybe even better.

That I am very childishly disappointed by the unhappy ending.

It's also by Agassi (although it's certainly with the help of a ghostwriter).

I'll have research more on "sucked". Seems like rocket science.

"Waging Heavy Peace"- Neil Young
A great read; a lot of interesting stories and connections with others in the music industry that I'd not heard or read before.

Just started it, but it looks like it's going to be very interesting...not just the usual encyclopedia review of bands...Beyond and Before: Progressive Rock since the 1960s by Paul Hegarty and Martin Halliwell.

I just finished Paulo Coelho's Eleven Minutes. I have a somewhat mixed opinion on Paulo - there are times when his obvious talent shines through, and the opening ("Once upon a time there was a prostitute named Maria") as well as other lines are killer, but I think there are parts where he tries waaaay too much. This goes for most of his books (I've read only four of his though), most especially By The River Piedra....., which is a good story, but borders on over-the-top and an uneventful ending. The Alchemist is probably the only story which really avoids this. I somehow get the feeling that Paulo tried to follow a Latin American boom style but not in a really original, albeit moving and well worded way. As for 11 Minutes itself, the plot was pretty good, and it was enjoyable on the whole.

Speaking of Latin-American, I'm off for another read of Blindness by good ol' Jose Saramago. A tough but rewarding read.

I enjoyed 11 Minutes. I also like Veronica Decides To Die which was strangely uplifting! :D

You mean Veronika ? Learn to spell correctly, you fool. It's Brasil not Brazil

PS. I forgot to mention that over the last 2 months or so, Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse has become a favourite of mine. It's pretty much a brilliant work, word for word perfect I can say. I'm trying to find other Hesse works like Steppenwolf and The Glass Bead Game, but oh well, they're hard to find here.
