A little piece of history... 1 year ago...

Post by Stilgar »

It was march 5, 2002. The stars were shining in Santiago de Chile, and Mr. Roger Waters was playing a huge show, making all of us happy. Pink Floyd never came as a band, with or withour Roger, and probably never will come. But Roger... Roger did!!!

Let me tell you a little story. It was almost December 2001 when we were smashed by the TV: Roger Waters was coming to play here!!. My city is like 500 km south of Santiago, which is the bigger city of my country. Well, let me tell you I was born and live in Chile, for those of you who don't know where my country is, let me tell you one thing: the end of the world. The southern edge of south america. So, big rock bands come this far only sometimes, not as much as we'd like. Knowing this, you'll easily imagine how happy we (floyd fans) were.

But Roger had some surprises. We all had the image of an ugly Roger, never willing to talk with a fan or something like that (most of that image put on our heads, sadly, by dave gilmour). BUT, when Roger's plane landed, he went to say hello to the fans, to shake hands with them (!!), we couldn't believe it!!. After that, a guy from the Floydean Community of Chile (some kind of unofficial fan club) approached Roger, and talked to him. Next day, Roger was signing autographs on CDs, Cassettes, DVDs, whatever his fans took to him...

Well, this man was the ogre dictator of Pink Floyd??, to me, he seemed a great guy, a little cold sometimes, but more than able to give a little spark of happiness to people like us, his fans from the southern end of the world...

Oh, and, by the way, his show was magnificent. He said "Hello" and "Thank You" in spanish so many times, specially to the guys of the Floydean Community, who were with a huge flag that said "together we stand, divided we fall", and played really good, even when Jon Carin didn't came, 'cause Harry Waters (son of Rog) works GREAT in keyboards...

That's all

PS. Here is the story told by the guy I've said met Roger: http://www.pinkfloyd.cl/esp_roger_en_ch ... glish1.htm

That's not me, I just though it was good to prove thr Roger-signing-autographs statement, and borrowed this pic from the web page above cited.

Agree. In fact, I wasn't attacking Gilmour or something, I was just talking about Roger, and the image we all have of him. I've stated before that I don't care if Dave or Roger are selfish or whatever, I only lover their music. :!:

Of course, RPITI knows better than that nonsense. May we also know where you did get that One Truth from except from Roger Hypocrite Waters ??

I've seen many shows (including PF in '94) and I have to say Rog live in 2002 (at Wembley in my case) was the best gig I've ever been to.. the emotion, and energy from the Rog (and his band) was incomparable! The sense of 'togetherness' you mention was apparant both on stage and in the crowd.. I can't believe it's almost a year ago!!

Just thought - maybe the crowd seems more "into it" at a Roger concert because if you've heard of Roger Waters you've got to be a die hard Floyd fan. Whereas at a Pink Floyd gig you've got people there who have heard of Floyd, know they're a huge band and are expecting something special without really knowing the music ??! Does that make sense ??! :?

I bet that 'togetherness' also applies to a solo Dave show..
