Rick's voice

Post by David Smith »

Anyone else think Rick has a nice voice? Of the few songs he did hs performance on Paintbox is the best, he's like Syd and Roger at the same time, the perfect cross between the two.

Was it him that wrote the lyrics to painbox to?

I love Rick's voice to an extent. I think he's definately worthy of 1 or two songs per record plus maybe another where he sings a verse or two like in "time".

He has a very soothing voice to me and contrasts Dave's voice rather nice. I think my personal favorite is "stay".

"Wearing the Inside out" is nice too

Listening to a whole record of him though is a bit much for me. I think they struck the perfect balance on OBC.

I believe he wrote both the lyrics and music for "Paintbox"

I really like his voice on Stay also. A great little song.

I like Richard Wright's voice too. I think my favourite vocal of his would be in 'Time', where his somewhat mournful voice fits the words perfectly ("Hanging on in quiet desperation...", etc). 'Remember A Day', 'Paint Box', 'Wearing The Inside Out' and his harmony on 'Astronomy Domine' (l'originale from 1967) are also rather pleasant, too. :P

Me too - Broken China is pretty dreary cause Ricks tone is always the same - he never changes his pitch!! Daves voice is just naturally really good, and Rogers is very varied (sometimes quiet, sometimes shouting etc..) Rick just goes on and on and on..

Not to say he doesn't have his moments though. Ricks highlight for me is harmonizing with Dave on Echoes.. also Time, Stay and Paintbox are worhty Rick moments.

Rick singing Breakthrough on Gilmours live in concert album is really good. I like that very much indeed. He should sing more. :)

He has better voice ability than Roger. It would have been very nice to hear him singing on Dogs.

Simply because he is no leader, not a great pusher of his own ideas upon others.

Rick has a beautifull voice, like David, but, as David, he misses the sharp and emotional power of Roger's. I like him as he's singing with David. Their voices fit perfecrtly together.

Rick's voice is my least favorite of all the Floyd's. I don't dislike it, but there's just something about it that pushes me away more than draws me in, moreso than Roger's, Syd's or David's (I don't know what Nick sounds like). I do like it on Remember a Day, one of my favorite songs off ASOS, though.
