It's ok.
Roger sings fantastically - suspiciously good in fact. I get off to a bit of a bad start purely by the show's very nature - I'm not really a compilation kinda guy and that's what it basically is - a compilation ... actually, maybe more a sampler of the music of Pink Floyd and Roger's solo stuff.
I didn't care much for Shine on. not too keen on what the guitarists added (and took away) towards the beginning and the famous haunting four note phrase was played far too fast and the 'soul singing' from that lefty show-off guitar player and the backing singers towards the end of the song left a lot to be desired.
I did like Comfortably Numb and the Final Cut stuff. I thought they were excellent and I enjoyed Rogers 'showman' charisma and the comfort he had with the crowd.
I also enjoyed the behind the scenes stuff. Roger comes off as a very likeable kind of guy.
it was ok.

You know...I guess I like it. I watch it reasonably often...however, there really isn't much to it, is there?
My imaginary visuals while listening to the CD come off better...I wish I had some way to transfer that to a visual medium...perhaps I should speak with Samara Morgan or Sadako about that.
I also feel that Roger comes off as a very stiff frontman and occasionally slips into Frankensteinian movements.

Not matter of principle, i just don't like the renditions of the songs. I'm still not a multimillionair, so i can better spend my money to renditions of songs i like, no ? In fact, i like Rogers shows of the 2002-tour more ( i heard them from bootlegs, and i saw him in Antwerp on 13/05/02 ). I know i'm very "freaky" on this but a lot of Floydsongs contain guitarsolo's and there is only one man that can give me the true Floydsound on them and that's Dave.
I'm not going to force myself to find it good, because it's Roger Waters etc...
And yes, there are songs on the DVD that are good, but still, that doesn't convince me to buy a DVD of it. I saw the show live and IMHO it was nothing to be very very excited and to rewatch at home. It was nice, but not THAT nice.
BTW, i don't buy the Wall in Berlin either.

I agree too,i do like the D.V.D. but,i agree that only David Gilmour can give the songs the feel guitar wise that they need,i feel Doyle Bramhall 2 did a bad job with most of the songs,he is a good player but i don't think he was right for Floyd type songs, but Snowy White is,he is a great player, very bluesy, more like Gilmour, that is why he fits in better i feel.

The way I see it, it is exactly what it is called, a DVD of a Roger Waters show. You get Roger Waters, not Pink Floyd. Sure, I missed Gilmour's vocals and guitar-work on a few songs, but I certainly did not expect to hear Gilmour's vocals on the songs anyway, so it didn't matter to me.
I think it is a solid DVD. I like the documentary and how there is a feature that runs the lyrics along the bottom of the screen. It's too bad it doesn't have running commentary like The Wall DVD, though.

i think the DVD grows on you. The first time i viewed it i thought that the little silly actions he done during some songs were....well...silly!
but the more i watch it, the more i like the it.
Dogs is fantastic, didn't care much for the dodgy replacement for David's singing part for Comfortably numb....
the guy sounds kinda like a bad karaoke singer....not bad guitarist tho....he does look like he desperately needs the toilet during the guitar solos tho :p

I have both itf and David Gilmour DVD.
Roger gives a much better show. The backing band is superb. Pink Floyd are/were a high tech band. Dave has produced a cosy little show which is not to my taste. Its a pity cos I have always found Dave to be a great musician. He was boring on desert island discs.
A momentary lapse of reason?
