Oxfam Fundraising Events in England
Mark Wordley is putting on 2 more Oxfam charity fundraising events featuring the works of Pink Floyd in England. The events take place on 5th May at The Limelight Club in Crewe and on 17th May at The Bass Museum in Burton on Trent. Here is what Mark has to say about the events…
“The evenings are something completely different, with the first show being a 15 year ambition of mine to put on & raise funds for Oxfam. It was so successful that I was encouraged to put on more shows & therefore 18 months later I have organised 3 identical shows, the first of which was held on 1st March & sold out.
My idea is to put on a full night of Floyd entertainment, with impressive computer animation on 3 large screens, supported by accomplished musicians performing Floyd material acoustically. A special “half moon” back screen has been made for these shows and are supported by 8 professional light scanners. I have described the show as four and a half hours of sheer indulgence! Note that there are NO tribute bands, as I think there is already plenty of opportunity to see these throughout the country on a regular basis.
The highlights of the show are a full rendition of Dark Side of the Moon containing projected computer animation on 3 screens, acoustic performances by Blood Simple and Eclipse, and a violin solo. Blood Simple are very big in the Derby area, with the lead vocalist currently touring the UK with “Inc”. The other half of the band is Mick Doyle, having being the original member of The Crack and Neverland. BloodSimple and Eclipse do not usually perform Floyd material and have put these sets together purely for my events.
All shows are seated (cabaret style) with shows being a full 4 1/2 hours long commencing at 7.30pm prompt and closing at midnight – there is a chance to win the 9 CD collection Shine On at each show with the winner being drawn at the end of the show. Oh, I almost forgot, there is a full bar until close! Tickets are priced at £8.50 with all profits going to Oxfam (at least 50% ticket price). I honestly believe that these evenings are unique (by design!) and a must for any dedicated Floyd fan, or alternatively anyone to learn more about the band for the first time.
