  • David Gilmour ‘Between Two Points’ gets alt-J Remix
David Gilmour’s ‘Between Two Points’ has received a remix by Gus Unger-Hamilton of alt-J, giving it a hypnotic electro twist around the song’s ‘They’re right, you’re wrong’ refrain. Between Two Points is a beautiful reworking of The Montgolfier Brothers’ 1999 song featuring Romany Gilmour on lead vocals and harp. Perhaps the remix will help David Gilmour reach new audiences who might not even know David exists. This remix certainly adds a new dimension to David...
  • David Gilmour Royal Albert Hall Review ★★★★★
David Gilmour’s performance at the Royal Albert Hall on 10th October 2024 was much enjoyed by my girlfriend and me. We had decent tickets from the fan pre-sale which were a whopping £250 each after the usual Ticketmaster costs were loaded on top of the £227 ticket price. Because he was only doing a residency for 6 nights at the Royal Albert Hall in the UK, and no other nights closer to Liverpool or Manchester...

Roger Waters performed in London last Saturday for the Voices of Palestine Fundraiser according to guitarist Dave Kilminster who performed with him. The event was at The Dorchester on Park Lane. David said on his Facebook, “Honoured to play with Roger again last Saturday at a special fundraising event in Mayfair called ‘Voices of Palestine’”. Roger used some of the imagery from his This Is Not A Drill Tour and David Kilminster was innovative with...

Discography and Lyrics

Unveiling the rich tapestry of Pink Floyd’s extensive discography is akin to embarking on a journey through their illustrious history. The journey commences with the early days of Syd Barrett, marking the band’s first era. This period is followed by a phase of artistic growth leading up to their album, ‘Meddle’, where the band’s musical prowess truly blossomed.

The band then catapulted to fame, due to a winning combination of poignant lyrical themes, band synergy, and an extraordinary combination of musical elements from each member. This golden era spans from ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ to ‘Wish You Were Here’ and ‘The Wall’.

Post ‘The Final Cut’, the band transitioned into a new phase under the leadership of David Gilmour, following Roger Waters’ departure. The discography also includes solo works from the band members, reflecting their individual explorations into their own diverse musical influences.

For non-native English speakers or those, like myself, who revel in unearthing the themes and meanings behind songs, the lyrics of Pink Floyd serve as a valuable resource. This exploration enhances the appreciation of their music, adding another layer of depth to the listening experience.

History of Pink Floyd

This is covered by the Pink Floyd timeline and our biography sections which try to tell the very long history of the band in a very visual way using a timeline. It’s useful to me because I was born well after Pink Floyd had released their big albums. I enjoy the timeline of their history in particular because I can scroll over years of history. I can get the high level story or dive into the history a little further with the text on the timeline.

A Brief History

Pink Floyd

Pink Floyd, an English rock band, was formed in London in 1965. Initially gaining recognition as one of the first British psychedelic groups, they were known for their extended compositions, sonic experiments, philosophical lyrics, and elaborate live shows.

The band was founded by Syd Barrett (guitar, lead vocals), Nick Mason (drums), Roger Waters (bass guitar, vocals), and Richard Wright (keyboards, vocals). With Barrett as their main songwriter, they released two singles, “Arnold Layne” and “See Emily Play”, and the successful debut album ‘The Piper at the Gates of Dawn’ in 1967. David Gilmour (guitar, vocals) joined in 1967; Barrett left in 1968 due to deteriorating mental health.

While all four members contributed compositions, Waters became the primary lyricist and thematic leader, devising the concepts behind Pink Floyd’s most successful albums, ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ (1973), ‘Wish You Were Here’ (1975), ‘Animals’ (1977), and ‘The Wall’ (1979). The musical film based on ‘The Wall’, ‘Pink Floyd – The Wall’ (1982), won two BAFTA Awards.

Following personal tensions, Wright left Pink Floyd in 1981 becoming a paid musician on The Wall Tour, followed by Waters in 1985. Gilmour and Mason continued as Pink Floyd, rejoined later by Wright. They produced the albums ‘A Momentary Lapse of Reason’ (1987) and ‘The Division Bell’ (1994), backed by major tours, before entering a long hiatus.

In Later Years

In 2005, all but Barrett reunited for a performance at the global awareness event Live 8. Barrett died in 2006 and Wright in 2008. The last Pink Floyd studio album, ‘The Endless River’ (2014), was based on unreleased material from the ‘Division Bell’ recording sessions.

In 2022, Gilmour and Mason reformed Pink Floyd to release the song “Hey, Hey, Rise Up!” in protest of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. By 2013, Pink Floyd had sold more than 250 million records worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Their albums ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ and ‘The Wall’ were inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame.
