Pink Floyd Vintage PA System at Nick Mason’s Middlewick House
The Pink Floyd Vintage PA System will be on show next month. If you are heading to Nick Mason’s Middlewick house open garden charity event on 8/9th June then look out for the big red Avis van with a selection of Pink Floyd’s old PA equipment in! It will be in the Classic Vehicle outer field next to Middlewick House by invitation of Nick Mason.
The equipment is collected and shared by CH Vintage Audio ran by Chris Hewitt. Chris has re-created many a Pink Floyd set up over the years for us geeks to enjoy and has books that cover the topic too. Its great that Nick Mason’s house and gardens will be its next location.
June 2024 – Nick Mason’s House
On June 8th and 9th, Nick Mason’s Middlewick house opens its doors for charity. Amidst the lush gardens, keep an eye out for the big red Avis van. Inside, you’ll find a selection of Pink Floyd’s old PA equipment. The black Bedford van, reminiscent of their early touring days, adds a nostalgic touch. It’s a chance to connect with music history and witness the gear that fuelled Pink Floyd’s sonic explorations.
The amount of Pink Floyd PA system on display, outside of the van, will obviously be dependent on the good old English weather. Fingers crossed it replicates last year where the ice cream sellers did a roaring trade.
There are some fantastic cars that arrive at the event because Nick Mason is a car enthusiast as much as a musician. He got that from an early age from his father.
If you don’t know, Pink Floyd’s early days had them touring around the country in their black Bedford van pictured above. Theirs was black and had a big stripe down the side, a design used on the Pink Floyd Early Years Box Set. When they outgrew their first Bedford van the Floyd got a long wheelbase transit and also started hiring Avis vehicles.
June 2024 – Cranage Hall Hotel, Cheshire
Mark your calendar for June 22nd and 23rd at Cranage Hall Hotel in Cheshire. The Avis Transit, the Pompeii and Dark Side re-creation Floyd Allen and Heath mixer, and the Dark Side of The Moon PA system with EV Vitavox horns will be on display. Admission is free, so audiophiles and Floyd enthusiasts, don’t miss this opportunity to immerse yourselves in vintage soundscapes.
September 2024 – DSotM Rig Recreation, Bolton, Manchester
In September, Bolton, Manchester, becomes the stage for the Pink Floyd desk re-creation and the Dark Side of the Moon Kelsey Martin bins. The anticipation builds as fans await this unique experience. Music and memories converge, and the spirit of Pink Floyd lives on.

September 2024 : PLASA London
The final event allows you to see and hear the mixing desk from the Dark Side of the Moon Tour at Kensington Olympia as part of the industry PLASA show. This desk was also used at Pompeii so is a special part of Pink Floyd’s history. It is an interesting part of Rock history looking back at these early desks and the development of the loud PA systems that were needed to fill the ever growing venue sizes that bands called at. Playing in small halls with minimal amplification was a thing of the past when Pink Floyd reached stardom!
