Remixed Pink Floyd Live at Earls Court Available “at some point”

Pink Floyd’s live recording of Dark Side of the Moon, captured during their 15 night residency at Earls Court in London in 1994, will be released with new stereo, 5.1 and Dolby Atmos mixes. These recordings were the basis of the popular PULSE release from the band.

Alan Parsons, who worked as recording engineer on the original studio album Dark Side of the Moon said he is “delighted to announce the new stereo, 5.1 and Dolby Atmos mixes of the recently completed Pink Floyd: Live at Earls Court in London 1994 that played the entirety of The Dark Side Of The Moon”.

Update 15/8/24: Mojo magazine, Alan Parsons states: Next year should see a Parsons remix of Pink Floyd’s live album, Pulse. “I was absolutely delighted when David Gilmour called,” he says, still open to projects. I sensed disappointment with the existing James Guthrie mixes. They were looking for something a little more adventurous – and I’ve done it.”

What is released and when?

The Pink Floyd Later Years boxset included a restored and re-mixed Delicate Sound of Thunder however the Pulse Blu-ray and DVD were only restored and re-edited i.e it was not re-mixed.

Pink Floyd’s manager confirmed to NPF that the new release would only contain “TDSoTM and encores and it’s both audio and a/v”. He also said the recording would be released “at some point” in the future but didn’t specify when. For future updates, please get our Pink Floyd newsletter.

A Personal Touch

In a really nice personal touch, Alan Parson’s Facebook page noted, “David Gilmour personally commissioned Alan (who engineered the original 1973 album) and approved the final mixes”.

Having been the recording engineer on the original album, Alan would have had an incredibly detailed experience of the album, choosing what to add, what to leave out. Indeed, the Frameless Exhibition in London, put on by Pink Floyd keyboardists Rick Wright’s daughter Gala Wright, had a new mix of Great Gig in the Sky. That song was written by Rick Wright and vocalist Clare Torry and is a standout song from the album. Being able to hear the subtle keyboard parts that had been greatly emphasised in that recording really did give the listener a new experience of the album in my view.

On the topic of revisiting the mix for Pink Floyd Live at Earls Court, Alan Parsons said, “It was a fantastic experience to go back to the songs I knew so well from the original album. Remixing this amazing live performance was a real treat”.
