NPF are excited to be able to tell you that the exhibition that will accompany the publication of the book Barrett: The definitive visual companion to the life of Syd Barrett has been officially announced.

The exhibition Syd Barrett: Art and Letters will be held at the Idea Generation Gallery in London from 18th March to 10th April 2011.

As with the book, the exhibition has been organised in conjunction with the Syd Barrett Estate and in co-operation with the Barrett family by Brian Werham and Will Shutes over the past three years. The exhibition also draws on the work Russell Beecher has been beavering away at over the past year for the book and as a result will be the largest exhibition of Syd Barrett’s original works of art, photographs, and letters ever to be exhibited.

It will be a marvellous exhibition at a great gallery and admission is free so we do hope that you get a chance to go.

The Idea Generation Gallery is at 11 Chance Street, London E2 7JB. Please take a look at their website for further information: http://gallery.ideageneration.co.uk

After Syd Barrett died in 2006, much of the artwork he had created was auctioned by Cheffins aution house in Cambridge. Towards the end of Syd’s life he had taken to painting onto canvass, taking a photo of the artwork then destroying the canvas! It is a shame much of his artwork from that period will not be seen! However, there is lot of Syd Barrett artwork and paintings in the NPF Photo Gallery. Take a look!
