The Art of Pink Floyd The Wall – New Gerald Scarfe Book Out Nov 2021

When you think of The Wall album, you might think of all the wonderfully illustrated characters which have become iconic to Pink Floyd fans. Recently at Sotherby’s auction house, the original paintings and illustrations by artist and illustrator Gerald Scarfe sold for tens of thousands of pounds so must be very iconic indeed to someone! The great news is Gerald has a new book out on 25th November 2021 which features 288 pages dedicated to the artwork he created for The Wall. It is a bit pricey at £120 currently on Amazon with an RPP of £150. But for fans with a good deep pocket I am sure it will be well worth it. It is published by Little, Brown. Watch Rare Video Interviews with Pink Floyd – Part of The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story

The director John Edginton has been in touch to kindly share the interview videos he did, largely unedited, with members of Pink Floyd. John used the interviews in the documentary he directed called The Pink Floyd and Syd Barrett Story which was done back in 2001 for the BBC, but later released on DVD in 2003. I think it was also on VH1 earlier than 2003. The videos presented here are longer than those featured as bonus material on the DVD. Syd Barrett himself watched the documentary. According to his sister Rosemary, Syd watched the documentary when it was broadcast on the BBC. He apparently found it “a bit noisy”, although he did enjoy seeing Mike Leonard, who he referred to as his “teacher”. He also enjoyed hearing “See Emily Play” again. Unseen Syd Barrett Painting up for Auction

Pink Floyd founding member Syd Barrett once gifted a painting he did to a former teacher when leaving high school aged fifteen. The son of that teacher is now selling the picture and is expected to bring £3k-£5k at an auction by Cheffins. The painting is called Orange Dahlias in a Vase and Syd painted it whist attending Cambridgeshire High School for Boys. Roger Waters and Storm Thorgerson also attended the same school. Orange Dahlias in a Vase is estimated to fetch £3,000 – £5,000 at the Cheffins Art & Design Sale in Cambridge on Thursday 27th May 2021. David Gilmour has lent his guitar playing skills to a new recording of ‘Need Your Love So Bad’ to help promote a book. The book is Albatross Man and is a visual documentary of Fleetwood Mac founding member Peter Green who sadly passed away last summer. The book was 4 years in the making and is an exceptionally exclusive product. The “ultra deluxe signed” version is £2,000 and is limited to 50 copies. David Gilmour on Forthcoming Piano & Friends record by Jools Holland

A tiny fragment of information slipped out of Jools Holland’s Instagram the other day. David Gilmour has recorded on his forthcoming album Piano and Friends. Jools Holland is of course the host of Later With… Jools Holland, a long running music show on the BBC in the UK. He is also a composer, pianist and bandleader of his rhythm and blues orchestra. David Gilmour has recorded for many people over the years and done live performances too. This isn’t the first time David has recorded with Jools.
