Lee Harris, a British musician born on 22 October 1972 in Hammersmith, London, England, gained widespread popularity as the guitarist for Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets. Lee Harris is one of the founding members of Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets touring band. Lee Harris Influences Harris grew up listening to classic rock bands like The Who, Rolling Stones, Santana, Allman Brothers, Deep Purple, Joe Walsh, Joe Cocker, ZZ Top, and Pink Floyd, which inspired him to learn the guitar at the age of 13. In his early twenties, Harris played in various London-based bands until he became a touring member and co-manager for Ian Dury and The Blockheads. Mercury Studios announces the completion of the feature length documentary HAVE YOU GOT IT YET? THE STORY OF SYD BARRETT AND PINK FLOYD, along with producers Believe Media and A Cat Called Rover. The film was directed by award-winning filmmaker Roddy Bogawa and late famed graphic designer Storm Thorgerson. Storm Thorgerson Biography

Storm Thorgerson (1944-2013) was an English graphic designer and the co-founder of the design company, Hipgnosis. He was born in England and grew up in a family of artists and musicians. Thorgerson attended the same school as Pink Floyd members and this led to a life-long collaboration with the band on many of their album covers and promotional materials. Hipgnosis was founded in 1968 and quickly established itself as one of the leading graphic design firms in the music industry. Thorgerson and his team created some of the most iconic album covers of all time, including Pink Floyd’s “Dark Side of the Moon”, Led Zeppelin’s “Houses of the Holy”, and 10cc’s “Deceptive Bends”. Thorgerson was known for his imaginative and often surreal style, and his designs often incorporated unusual imagery, such as giant eggs, flying pig balloons, and abstract images. I had the pleasure of attending the launch event for Hipgnosis- Masters of Album Cover Art at St Pauls Gallery in Birmingham on 22nd Feb 2014. In addition to the treasure trove of beautifully presented historic album cover art, there was an entertaining talk from Hipgnosis co-founder Aubrey “Po” Powell and Graham Gouldman from the band 10cc. There are lots of photos from the launch at the end of this article. Pink Floyd band members past and present have a long history of friendship and working together with Hipgnosis (Aubrey “Po” Powell and Storm Thorgerson). Hipgnosis produced album covers including Saucerful of Secrets, Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here and More (quantitatively and literally!). See a full list. Pink Floyd & Hipgnosis – Masters of Album Cover Art Exhibition 2014

St Pauls Gallery in Birmingham are exhibiting fine art print album cover art including pieces from Pink Floyd, 10CC, Led Zeppelin and others. The event is a celebration of the output from design house Hipgnosis where Aubrey Powell (pictured right) and the late Storm Thorgerson led the design team to create some of the most iconic album cover art in the history of music. Pink Floyd have had a long relationship with Storm Thorgerson and Hipgnosis. Storm was a childhood friend of the band growing up in Cambridge and produced many of Pink Floyd’s album covers. The excellent book Mind Over Matter: The Images of Pink Floyd is an excellent document of the amazing work produced by Hipgnosis for the Pink Floyd; additionally, The Album Art of Hipgnosis also covers Pink Floyd but is a comprehensive document of some of the cutting edge creative output of Hipgnosis.
