Fan Edits: The Endless River, the Syd Disc

Post by Vegetable Layne »

Here's an idea I had, after acquiring the gigantic set from Floyd this year. What if the London 67 set that contains the extra long Interstellar Overdrive and Nick's Boogie, had John Latham included for good measure, and thus make for a pure instrumental Syd-led Floyd disc, to counter TER's instrumental disc?Sort of like the beginning and the end?

I for one would buy it. That era for me is particularly interesting as it represents what PF would have sounded like at the UFO club in the early days. Some dismiss it as noodling (fair point) but I like the openness of the John Latham sessions from those I've heard. It shows Rick's jazz upbringing and it's so good to hear Syd just freeform on guitar (in a similar way to Lanky PT1). It reminds me of a less disciplined version of what Miles Davis got into around 1970 onwards. I recently listened to Stockholm 1967 where you can hear some of that freeform playing - check it out.
