What happened in 1976 then?

Post by Keith Jordan »

Did the band have a quiet period in 1976?? Animals was relased in 1977 so no albums in 1976. So, what did they do? I think it is time to move the year on now for the history discussions. :)

They didnt play any gigs or release any music in 1976. Nothing! They did set up their PA and Lighting rental companies though Britannia Row Audio and Britannia Row Lighting. They sold them in 1984. They also set up their own studio and started recording Animals - the first time they broke free from EMIs studio I think.

Didn't Gilmour produce a Unicorn album and play slide guitar on it?

I was looking at a Pink Floyd Timeline and noticed that on April 1st 1976 (I'm sure that date isn't significant) David Gilmours house was broken into and a number of guitars were stolen. The value of them was given as £7,000 but, according to this article anyway, most were recovered after someone was spotted playing one of his custom Strats at a local pub.

He produced all but 4 tracks on the album One More Tomorrow in 1977.

Gilmour got his first child Alice, they started working on Animals in their new studio Britannia Row, equipping it, playing snooker and backgammon.

Bump: David Gilmour produced the Hawkwind track Kerb Crawler for their album Astounding Sounds Amazing Music in July 1976. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerb_Crawler

1976 was a busy year for the band. They bought Brittania Row in 1975 and didn't finish setting it up until 1976. Waters spent the early part of the year rewriting Raving and Drooling and Gotta Be Crazy and wrote Pigs (3 Different Ones) and the Pigs on the Wing ballad. In April they started recording Animals and later that year prepared for the In The Flesh tour. The album was released in January 1977.
