Ok, i just read that little reply and i have to say, their are worse songs than Dogs of war on MLOR, they both go by the same name, so give a hand for what i think the entire forum can agree are the worst Floyd songs yet..... (drum roll) The New Machine part 1 and 2.

Ok, Bike seemed to me to be bloody irratating, don't get me wrong, Syd wasn't bad, but he's highly over rated among fans and critics. The album had some great songs, but i reckon SFOS was a vast improvement over it so Syd was hardly a great loss in that sense.

Division Bell singles? What did they release? I presume High Hopes (cause it's good) and Take It Back (because it's commercial) but did they release any others.

Actally, can anyone tell me how many singles Floyd released?

Thanks.

"Marooned" was released as a B-Side for "High Hopes" in France, and "Keep Talking (Radio Edit)" was released as a B-Side for "High Hopes (Radio Edit)" in the UK.

Too many to name or count at the moment. Go to Pg. 238 of the Pink Floyd Encyclopedia (2nd Edition) if you have it.

Sadly, i don't have the book, but i thought that ABITW part 2 was their first entry in over a decade (which doesn't explain money). This is the list i have so far:

Arnold Layne
See Emily Play
Point Me To The Sky
Money
Another Brick In The Wall part 2
Now Now John
On The Turning Away
Learning To Fly
High Hopes

Go on, someone put me out of my misery and tell me what's what.

On The Turning Away
Take It Back

I cannot stand "Young Lust " or "Money". Both of these songs have Dave in the annoying rock star mode that I despise and are contrary to everything that I like about Floyd. They ruin the atmosphere of their respective albums. I am sure that the incessant FM radio airplay has not helped one bit.

Once there was somekind of competition between "The tide keeps turning" and "On the turning away". In my eyes the last one lost. This PF-Song is something for football-hools - something they can howl at the stadiums... a song I definetly hate!

Worst in no order:
On the Run (ok in concert with the flying airplane)
sysphus (very irritating in some parts)
bike
welcome to the machine(so boring with the same chords over and over)
bring the boys back home
several species of small furry creatures grooving together with a pict (very annoying)
a new machine 1-2
seamus

10 Favorites in no order:
echoes
one of these days
shine on 1-8
breathe
comfy numb
wish you were here
dogs
high hopes
in the flesh
us and them-brain damage

Bloody hell, i actually forgot about several small species.... what a bad song that was. In fact, most early waters songs were a bit pish. Aside from Let there be more light (is that Gilmour singing?) his writing was fairly basic (If, Take thy stephescope..., corporal clegg, san tropez e.t.c)

Syspus i don't really remember seing as i've only heard the album once. Personally i remember thinkin Nick's song was the worst (especially part 2) but then again, roger's was bad to.

Excluding PATGOD, I think most early PF songs are a bit pish.

Sysyphus and Several Species are both on Ummagumma...

I simply hate Another brick in the wall part two. The commercial side (released as the single, reached no. 1 on charts) destroyed the song.
Parts 1 and 3 including Happiest days of our lives and Goodbye cruel world are very good songs, but nowdays if there is a bit chatting on about Pink Floyd everybody starts:"WE DON'T NEED NO EDUCATION...". Just what they need is a mask of a pig as seen on The wall motion picture.
I hate the fucking song. Bloody hate it.

Worst Floyd Tune Ever...

Worst ever is "It Would Be So Nice," and roaring into second place is "Paintbox." I hope this isn't taken as a slam against Rick Wright because I really love some of his other contributions (like Summer '68), but really; it seems like he was trying too hard to capture that "Barrett-Whimsy" and it just came out sounding pretty gay and annoying...

I thought most of the album SFOS tried to capture the Barret feeling again, but failed. Songs like Corporal Clegg (what an old dog that is) and See Saw were pathectic attempts to sound like the boy Syd (remember a day almost falls in to this category to.)

I knew Sysphlus was on Umma Gumma by the way, as with several small... it's just that i'be heard Umma Gumma once, and it's pish, so i havent heard it again. The live cd was ok though, AD sounded well good.

ABITW part 2 is a crime, it's so commercial and the kids sound so irritating. Has anyone heard the recent dance version of this song? I heard it on holiday and i've not heard it once since. It's just the kids on a loop while a rapper raps over them, everything then stops and they all chant "We don't need no education!" together. It's so bad it's funny.

I know, for this post we're going to put up a definitive collection of the worst songs. We're going to include 10 (not in any order) and whoever posts for this has to include a nomination to make the list.

My nomination: Corporal Clegg.

So we have the first track on the list, now come along and nominate the next 9, so next 9 to post have their way.

I'll put a vote in for "A Spanish Piece".

Commercial music.

Post by tjhmcewan »

I have seen a lot of posts here that complain about certain songs being bad because they are so 'commercialised'. This seems a bit silly to me, because I can't help but wonder if we would like them were they underground or alternative?

I guess my point is, don't let whether you hear a song on the radio a dozen times a day influence your decision on whether a song is good or bad. I doubt Roger Waters is complaining about the pop appeal of some of their songs: he's laughing all the way to the bank. And does that make him lose some of his integrity as an artist? Absolutely not. His music is there for people to enjoy and if that includes 18 year olds partying on a Friday night to the remix (which by the way it was described, DOES sound pretty sad) as well as tried and true Pink Floyd fans, then so be it. I for one will be the first to bop around to Another Brick in the Wall Part II in my car, but I also enjoy chilling out to the 'less commercial' stuff too.

Corporal Clegg

Post by Jimbo »

Is Corporal Clegg Roger Waters' first anti-war song (depending on how you view the lyrics) and so worthy of re-evaluation?
