Snowy plying solos on Shine On and Have A Cigar - 1977?

Post by space triangle »

I always knew that Snowy White played guitars on some of the Animals songs at the 'In The Flesh tour 1977'. But, I thought he stayed away from the second half of the concerts, during the WYWH songs.

1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts I-V):
David Gilmour - lead guitar, backing vocals
Roger Waters - bass, lead vocals
Richard Wright - keyboards
Nick Mason - drums
Snowy White - rhythm guitar

2. Welcome To The Machine:
David Gilmour - rhythm guitar, vocals
Roger Waters - acoustic guitar, vocals
Richard Wright - keyboards
Nick Mason - drums
Snowy White - bass

3. Have A Cigar:
David Gilmour - rhythm guitar, backing vocals
Roger Waters - bass, lead vocals
Richard Wright - keyboards
Nick Mason - drums
Snowy White - lead guitar

4. Wish You Were Here:
David Gilmour - lead guitar, lead vocals
Roger Waters - bass, backing vocals
Richard Wright - keyboards
Nick Mason - drums
Snowy White - rhythm guitar

5. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI-IX):
David Gilmour - lead guitar, lap steel guitar, backing vocals
Roger Waters - bass, lead vocals
Richard Wright - keyboards
Nick Mason - drums
Snowy White - lead guitar (trading off solos with DG)

Why should he? Those songs are just as multi-layered as the ones on Animals, and if you've got a second guitarist with you, you might as well make use of that possibility.

I didn't know he played the solo on Have a Cigar, but I guess it's a bit like Tim Renwick playing the solo on Learning to Fly on the '87-'94 tours. Give the other guy some chance to shine.

Well, for some reason I thought Snowy was brought in primarily because of the new(at the tine) album, Animals. And, I never thought David would let anyone else play solos on the mighty Shine On You Crazy Diamond. That is a bit disappointing.
