Site Going Slow

It's definitely improved this evening...well, in the last hour or so.

I think I finally found out what was wrong with the server and fixed it. Time will tell though!!!

Due to all of the site being database driven, there was a backlog building up relating to the maximum number of "files" the database server could have open. Was set to 90, and is currently using 125+ in quiet time of day. I think that was the issue.

It doesn't help when the server is constantly being hammered by bots either.

Time will tell.

12 hours downtime. Sorry about that chaps. I was out in the pub so didnt notice the site was down. I shall purchase some more credits at pingdom.com so they send me a text message when the server is down.
