What To Do With Flooding/Spammers?

Post by Keith Jordan »

Many people have complained over the years about some members conduct with regards to spamming and flooding the forum with unecessary replies that add nothing to the debates going on.

This is YOUR community so what would you like to be done with them?

The current policy is three strikes then a ban.

Its not a big enough or active community I wager to get a good result from this poll. Some forums are really ruthless about crossing lines, other forums don't mind if you piss all over the rules.....

If other Floyd forums are run like cult camps then this one needs to serve as a fallout shelter I guess for people that don't want to tow a certain party line. However it is also difficult to cater for every 'unique' individuals quirks if they are badly at odds with general civility or coherency.... a fine balance needs to be struck!!!

Being a board for people who wont behave themselves is not my vision for the forum. I want people to enjoy it. 8)

Delete their account Keith, it´s your forum and you´ve got the right to decide who´s in and who´s out. I don´t like to read post by spammers at all. Get 'em a fucking life !

If, despite the warnings, they still continue spamming, I would delete the account (that is what I voted).

I would say warn them once, and if they don't listen, delete their account. It becomes very annoying and disheartening when I come in here and I see the name of one of these type of posters listed all down the column of most recent posts. I usually just log out without even reading the threads because I don't feel like sifting through all the nonsense for something of interest to read. It really diminishes my enjoyment of the forum.

I don't give a monkeys what you do. All I know is this site has become very boring. The same few posting. Much of what they say and do they might just as well disappear up their own ass.

3-month ban. Of course, I remember my one-time (?) ban, and the reason wasn't all clear to me, but hey, I didn't die, and I guess I made some calculations as well. Also, that gave me time to concentrate on other things. Even from good things one needs a break once in a while. And I remember that time when I was rude to boo, though unintentionally, - that time I did deserve my punishment, I guess.
Trolls, on the other hand, will not try anything funny again.
And finally, one-message-advertisers (you know, people who only come to advertise something and only post once or twice) should get their accounts deleted.

I'll still look in. If it picks up and I find something worth commenting on I'll add my two-penneth. As you know I'm very blunt with my comments and I upset people sometimes. To be honest this forum is nothing like it used to be. I think Keith has been trying to encourage different topics, most have had very little impact.

i'd say issue a ban and if people can't learn then ban them.

The problem is with not much activity from the brothers Floyd at the moment it's just the fun and games threads that get comments and it's the same people posting worthless rubbish in there.

theyve just put out 5 cd's of previously unreleased material
