Post by Wolfpack »

This week, George Martin (1926-2016) passed away.

Martin is famous for being the main producer of The Beatles.
And with The Beatles, he paved the way for heavy studio time consuming bands like Pink Floyd.
Without 'Sgt. Pepper' no 'The Piper', for example.

R.I.P. George Martin.
We can only dream what could of been had George Martin produced Pink Floyd.
There will be many producers, but none of them will reach the height and standard of George Martin's production skills. :(

I was sorry to see this. On the other hand, he had good innings. He also got the recognition he deserved in his lifetime which is always nice I think.

That's actually not true, to be precise, since both were recorded at the same time ;)

Although the production values pushed forward by the Beatles were indeed a huge influence on the Pink Floyd sound, and on their aproach to recording in the studio, from the very start.

I've read that Pink Floyd could take more studio time,
because The Beatles (recording next door) also got more studio time.
And before that, The Beatles already had a habit of taking more and more studio time.
