see~saw

Post by Keith Jordan »

How cool is this song! I can hear beatles and brian wilson here!! :-)

http://www.neptunepinkfloyd.co.uk/albums/?id=saucer

Marigolds are very much in love
but he doesn't mind
pickin' up sister
makes his way to the see-saw land
all the way up she smiled
she goes up while he goes down down

Sits on a stick in the river
laughter in his sleep
sister's throwing stones hoping for a hit
he doesn't know, so then
she goes up while he goes down, down

Another time, another day
a brother's way to leave
another time, another day day day

selling plastic flowers on a Sunday afternoon
pickin' up weeds
she hasn't got time to care
all can see he's not there
she grows up for another man and he's down

Another time, another day
a brother's way to leave
another time, another day day day

Ah good song that, always liked the totally laid back tone of it. And what a vocal performance :D

Keith, I salute you. I love this song so much. It makes me want to cry, laugh and reminisce, all at the same time. Kind of Pet Soundsy, don't do think? Beautiful. :)

Favourite line is probably

"He's not there..."

Touching.

"A brother's way to leave..."

Argh. :| That's moving stuff.

Great song. When Rick sings it sounds so English. He articulates very precies, I'm not an expert but it sounds more English then for example Beatles or Stones.

Id say ricks english is just another variant on spoken english,im sure you could argue the case that any accent whether it be manchester, birmingham, cornwall etc is equally as english.

I guess there is a stereotypical english accent as there are so many of them from town to town and city to city!! There certainly are some strange accents knocking about though!!

It's a relaxing song. But I have to say I like Remember A Day better; both of his songs on SoS tho have that nostalgic childhood theme going. When I hear those songs I sometimes feel like I can hear the flower-power era give its farewell as it began to fade at the very end of the '60s. I wonder tho why Rick was embarrassed of those songs, at least as was quoted in Schaffner's book Saucerful of Secrets.

A see-saw-full of secrets

Post by Beatle Neil »

:D Yeah, 'See-saw' is a good one, one of my favourites out of Rick's songs....especially the stereo version, that 3-note coda that follows "...she goes down...down..." thats switches from channel-to-channel...especially groovy on the headphones, that bit. y'know?
In fact - it's high time Rick's efforts were given their due same way George Harrison's songs for The Beatles were given their own compilation lp one day so let's knock up a cd for all Rick's songs..."A see-saw-full of secrets" we could call it. Let's swap suggestions for the track-listing..... :)
I'll get back to you when I've drawn mine up...

See-Saw is one of my fave songs ever. It inspires me when doing animations (I want to do a clip to it someday).
And I love listening to it with headphones, because of the 3 notes that switch channels. Awesome.
I think I like all of his songs for Pink Floyd, even It would be so Nice...

Amazing song   . But, in my opinion, the best song on ASOSecrets is Set the controls for the heart of the sun.
