Richard Wright's Will - No Provisions for the Ex-Wives

Pink Floyd star leaves £24m to his children - but nothing to his three wives

He was the maestro behind the dreamy keyboard layers that defined Pink Floyd and became a soundtrack to the late 1960s and 1970s.

Yesterday it was revealed just how much Rick Wright's place in rock music history earned him.

The keyboard player was worth £24million when he died a year ago from cancer at the age of 65, his will revealed.

Profits from writing, recording, performing and royalty streams from his years with the band over the subsequent decades and then as a solo artist put the net value of his estate at £23.7million.

Though not as prolific a songwriter as band mates Roger Waters and David Gilmour, Wright wrote significant parts of the music for classic albums such as Meddle, The Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here, as well as Pink Floyd's final studio album The Division Bell.

Documents made public yesterday reveal the lion's share of his millions will be inherited by his children, James, 42, Gala, 39, and Ben, 17. None of Wright's three former wives were mentioned in the will.

His third wife, Mildred 'Millie' Hobbes, was separated from Wright in the year before he died and is understood to have taken a substantial divorce settlement after their marriage, during which she gave birth to Ben.

Neither Millie nor Wright's other former wives Juliette and Franka are understood to be disputing the will. Millie was unavailable to comment on her apparent omission.

Wright also made arrangements in the will for 'a really good party' to be held for his friends - putting aside £20,000 with a guest list to be drawn up by James and Gala.

The pair were also left their father's house in Le Rouret, in south east France.

Gala inherited his prized Aston Martin DB5, while Wright left his cherished Bosendorfer piano to her husband, former Pink Floyd session-bassist, Guy Pratt. The will also included generous six figure sums for Wright's sisters and their children.

The valuable moral rights to his musical, literary and performance work were left to his own children.

Wright, whose full name was Richard William Wright, founded The Pink Floyd Sound in 1965 with Nick Mason, Roger Waters and Syd Barrett.

He died at his Kensington home in West London on September 15 last year.

Not being familiar with the situation of rich divorced people popping their clogs, is Rick's not leaving anything to his ex wives all that unusual? The headline sounds a bit disingenuous to me. He didn't cut his three children out of the will. He left money for his siblings and his piano to Guy. Does his death mean no more maintenance for the ex wives?

And what's the story with Ben? Is he really 17? For some reason I thought he was born in the mid 1990s :?

I think it terribly how the media come up with headlines like that and sort of forget there is an actual family left behind. Typical of the filthy nature of the British Press and many of the British people! :D

=>Linky Dink(An interview with Rick when Broken China came out)
Tucked away in an Earl's Court side street (the Wright residence for three years), there's a green Audi estate in the drive and a bouncing four-month-old boy named Ben in the long, thin living room

I don't think there's anything wrong with him not giving anything to his ex-wives

Was anyone aware that Rick and Millie were seperated?
