Reviews of Glasgow NPF Marathon

Post by Comfortably_Floyd »

I've seen a few reviews about the gig on other threads, but i thought it would be good to post a "Review" Thread.
Favourite song of the night, favourite moment that kinda thing.
Was there anyone there from the start that would be ambitious enough to review all the songs???

We (The Surrogate Pink Floyd Show) loved Dark Side's version of Dogs, for which the vocals were just about perfect.

The Surrogate's 'Great Gig' was the real high point of their dark side set. It's one of those that has to be right and it was. Hats off to you.

Nice one Joe!

I've just found this thread, and gotta agree with Andy... I've seen three or four tribute acts play versions of Great Gig, and although Breathe's cover at the Brighton NPF show was fantastic, your set would have truly given them a run for their money if they'd all been in Glasgow - I can't wait to see it on Stu's DVD.

I'm still buzzing from that gig man!!

Being there for all of it, it's quite nice to see the order of the songs...because i'm remembering it more clearly now.

My top 10 songs/Performances (in no particular order) were

Great Gig in the Sky - Surrogate floyd... what a voice on that female singer!

Coming Back to Life - Surrogate floyd (this is when everyone got up and started dancing...ironically coming back to life!

Nobody Home - Jer McDade and Me! Ok probably one of my favourites purely because i got to play this one, but it was completely random that i got up and i had never rehearsed it with Jer ever!

Shine On - Two Lost Souls These guys were extremely talented and had great feedback from the crowd. They did their set like David Gilmour's Meltdown with a kind of Roger Waters version of Wish You Were Here thrown in...great stuff!

Astronomy Domine - Darkside...absolutely spot on! note for note. Darkside really pulled off the early sound of floyd well!

Comfortably Numb (obviously) - Darkside - a great favourite, by this point of the night every one was having a great time and everyone was up on their feet singing along...including me!

Brain Damage - Surrogate Floyd - I love this track anyway but i remember during this performance...during the bit near the end were you hear laughing, the stand in singer who came from another floyd tribute band emulated the laugh and i saw some of the other band members try not to laugh, it sounded great!

Dogs - Darksides...i loved singing along to this one, it sounded great, was just a shame there was only one guitar playing the solo bits instead of two harmonizing, but great nonetheless!

Gunners Dream - Surrogate Floyd- Powerful, emotional, great Sax!

Hey You - Darkside - Again sounded spot on, loved the guitar part

All in all it was a... great day! (i was dying to type 'another brick on the wall' there!)
