My dad has had strokes and still doesn't have the resolve. His dad died from lung cancer. Smoking will somehow kill me too I think.

Sorry to hear that, Duckboy. I will probably die of cancer or heart disease as that is on both sides of my family! :o

Day 4! I just had a nice bowl of marinated olives, artichokes and dried tomatos and they tasted good. That was in place of cigarettes. If I keep this up, I could be 30 stone by the end of the year!!!

I don't know how much a stone is exactly, but I know that I gained over 10 kilos in the first six months. After that my weight remained on that level.

I lost cout, but I guess I'm somewhere around day 3,956... but I could be wrong...
I don't think I gained weight, I didn't replace smoking with something else. But I did quit with sugar in my coffee at the same time and started to take more walks. That might have helped.

Hang on Keith!

It's a funny thing, I quit chewing bubble gum when I quit smoking. I always had to use those to mask the bad breath in everyday human interactions and the damn things always annoyed me so much. Once I quit smoking there was no real reason for me to keep spending money on that crap.

Indeed, that is what I was doing also. I have carried on with the chewing as that is as much a habit as the smoking! haha Next week no gum.

In work, I have been on the Foxes Glacier Mints which I have been enjoying very much indeed. Every time I believe momentarily I "need" a smoke, I smile, take a Foxes Glacier Mint, unwrap and enjoy the fresh minty taste!

I have tried to get INTO smoking but sadly never have had success. It just does nothing to me, I feel I little dizzy and that's about it. Find it quite boring. I prefer eating ridiculous amounts of pastries and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, which I guess is even worse for my health.

Hope you are still off the fags Keith. It is about day 12 for me. I still have the urge to smoke, but sheer will power is stopping me. I am eating far too many sweets and I have put on a bit of weight. It is too difficult to give up and try and lose weight at the same time - the latter will have to hold until I get through the non-smoking bit. I am determined to call myself a non-smoker, but at the moment I feel it is just a long break between ciggies.
