Pretty horrible news, had a bad morning.

Grew up with his films, one of the funniest men to have lived.

Dreadful news
:(

I've always felt something wasn't quite right with the man. His frequent choice to play mentally off-kilter characters in many of his films (Fisher King and Insomnia just to name 2) may have reflected his off-screen torment. He was apparently addicted to cocaine and alcohol for many years and suffered intense depression. It is a shame because he was immensely talented both as a comedic and dramatic actor. He will be missed.

Yes, shocked too. The sad thing is that quite a few funny men have that dark side to him. Perhaps it's the trade-off for being funny. Someone talking about him on the radio suggested that his manic style may have been born out of his trying to silence the noises in his head. There could be some truth in that. I wasn't really a fan of his comedies and had to be in the mood for his comic riffs. On the other hand he was a fine straight actor and it's a pity he didn't do more of those.

A good actor can make you believe the part he's playing, a great actor can make you laugh and cry, but only the best of actors can make you do all that at the same time. Robin Williams was certainly one of those. I always felt he never got enough credit he deserved. He was one of rare actors who was equally great in comedic and in dramatic roles, most evidently in 'The Fisher King', which was arguably his best role. Too bad this was the only way he knew to silence those demons of his for good.

Rest in peace.

He was superb in the movie Awakenings, and just about everything else he ever did. RIP Mr. Williams.
