Actually, I can imagine Pink Floyd without The Division Bell.....madcap69 wrote:Imagine The Division Bell without him. He's got the best stuff on the album
But yeah, what some of you have said are my thoughts exactly; I've been bitching for a long time about how at some point, Pink Floyd became Roger's band of session musicians, instead of the real band they always were before.
i just love the cohesion on the albums where they actually worked together. You can truly feel it.
As you can totally notice when did they start to fall apart, and Roger took the definite lead.
My guess is that he should've had someone who stood against his 'dictatorship' and provided some equilibrium to the mix.
Kinda like the John/Paul combination on the Beatles. They foght a lot, but at least they fought! Fighting is a way of working together, not working for someone, but with someone.
And I dunno about you guys, but I think Dave -who could've been that strong person- gave up on it mid-way, and became a yes-man, of sorts.
He said it himself: he just went to the studio, did his parts, and bye-bye.
I'm sure they all could've evolved much more as musicians (and even writers), if Roger had let them, but his 'personality' (i.e. ego) got too big...
'Tgether we stand, divided we fall?' Why, he should've listened to himself more often!!

Ah, Richard. Really love the old stuff.
And Tinkerbell, oh lovely Tinkerbell, where have you gone with your Kermit shoes?
EDIT: Actually it was Ringorocks with the Kermit shoes.

Stop dredging up old threads!
I just listened to Wet Dream in its entirety last weekend. When I am in the mood for that type of mellow music, it is really quite good. Generalhooha's review of the album is outstanding!

I wish I had Wet Dream...I had it on vinyl all those years ago.
I really dig Richard's playing, especially when he gets going with the organ when Pink Floyd are *ahem* rocking.

I was surprised to see Tinkerbell again. Until I saw the year this was posted. Funny.nosaj wrote:Ah, Richard. Really love the old stuff.

Re: Richard Wright
It was cool when both Tinkerbell and Diin Jaffa were posting in the same thread!

Re: Richard Wright
There's little doubt in my mind that Rick is Pink. Notice how the "least Floydian" albums in the discography (The Final Cut, A Momentary Lapse Of Reason) happened to lack any Rick, but behind every famous Floyd song is a wonderful carpet of Hammond/Farsifa, epic wailing of a Moog/Prophet/etc, or (metaphor) of a piano.
Another point of proof: Rick's albums happen to sound the most like the Floyd of that era. Wet Dream could easily have been part of Animals if not for lyrics, and instrumentals like Waves and Medditerranean C sound like they were ripped straight from Obscured By Clouds.
Broken China sounds slightly more Floydian than the Division Bell, which is already the Floydiest since the Wall. Everything on the album could have been on TDB, and if you tone back the drumpad use several songs could appear on The Wall or the like.
(Also Zee/Identity sounds the most like AMLOR, but that hardly counts.)
