It was Paul's ego trip. He wanted to make an alter ego Beatles band called Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Club Band. It is THE concept, with no any ideas, just another band.

I read this explination in a beatles book( the title is called"The Beatles")

Sgt. Peppers LONLEY HEARTS club band- Siginifying all lonley people (single people)

song one-- is the band the main character is in
song two-- With a little help from his friends he decides to propose

song 3-- He give his the gril (named Lucy Perhaps?) an engagement ring(diamond)

song 4-- things start to get better

song5-- Hes fixing his house for when she comes that night, but is having trouble because he cant stop his mind wondering( thinking of her)

song6- When she comes over she tells him how she ran away from home in order to find a better life and a new job, and now shes met him.

song7-- they go out to the circus as a last date before they get married

song8-- they start to talk about what love is and decide toget married soon

song9--- they get married and talk about how theyll grow old togeather.

Song10-- he sees rita the meter maid and is drawn to her and cheats on his wife.

song11- He dies and then she realizes that she didnt really love him because she does not feel anything towards his death adn everythings the same.

song12-- the band he was in plays at his funeral, signifying that his life was very near the end.

song13-- She is now depressed that shes a LONLEY HEART so she is trying to throw herself at anyone bordering prostetution ( id love to turn you on)

WELL there you have it, if you think anything is wrong then dont blame me lol

That all very though provoking stuff, that is except the last bit and the highly weak justification for She's Leaving Home.

That's the first thing ive ever read that tries to tie together Sgt. Pepper's songs into a single conceptual context. I dunno about the last one tho, since I don't think there's any solid reference to prostitution in "A Day in the Life".

Who has the better concept album?

While I think The Wall is the best of Floyd concept albums, Quadrophenia is a very close second. TFC seems to be a continuation of The Wall, whereas TOMMY has no connection to Quadrophenia. :D :-({|= ](*,)

I liked Quodrophenia, but was it an album before a film? Basically did The Who come up with the concept or was it given to them?

The Who put out the album in 1974, I believe. It came out on film around 1979.

quadrophenia was an album

pete townshend created the concept.

in the 60's mods liked the who. and pete was a mod in heart. he wrote an album about it.

it was later turned into a film. just like Tommy was.

Pete's other project, that i think is worth mentioning, is called The Lifehouse.

it was originally the concept album to follow Tommy. It contained songs like Wont Get Fooled Again, Behind Blue Eyes, Baba O'Riley, Goin Mobile, getting in tune, and many many others. Basicly, all of Who's Next and a few more songs was The Lifehouse to start off with. The story of the album is very complicated, yet simple. Simply put, it is how rock music can seriously have affect on a person. There are references to something like the internet, and a grim future. Pete never finished the album, and it put him in a nervous breakdown. They took a few of the top songs, and made Who's Next. it gets my vote for best concept album, too bad it wasnt finished :(

you can read all about it at his website http://www.petetownshend.co.uk
