Hi Norman!
Very nice to meet and chat with you in Brighton!
I never got your name - I think - or maybe I was not as sober as you
.
I am very glad to read that you enjoyed our set.
To pity the sound of your voice & guitar was so low from the stage - I could not hear you!
Looking forward to hear you next time instead!
But of what I could hear I understand you make personal versions of PF.
I like that!!
Myself I dig both ways to play a cover live;
personal, original or as close to the original track as possible as a substitute for the real Pink Floyd.
But for any recordings i for sure prefer original, personal versions -
if I want to hear real Pink Floyd well, there is no reason to listening to anything else than the original albums!
The female member of Breathe was amazing. Her "Great Gig In The Sky" - wow!
Now to the NPF Original Night the following sunday:
Our "Obscured By Clouds" cover must be our "More" cover. "Crying Song". Im glad you enjoyed it!
Stus band sounded to have lots of influences from 80ths Kraftwerk. That was cool to hear! I like Kraftwerk alot.
Sussi, our female bassist, who grow up with 80synthpop enjoyed to hear this type of music. We did not know what type Stus band played! So were surprised.
NonBeliver had some stand out tracks. A great band!
See ya! All the best
Norbert Wilkins wrote:Wow. I had no idea so many of you were there. Wasn't being aloof or anything, just didn't spot you, being slightly short-sighted and a bit absent minded and all that. Oh well. I enjoyed myself, anyway. Had about four and a half hours kip on Friday night, then had to work 8am-12pm, then caught a train down to Brighton with the gf, made contact, couldn't soundcheck, hung around, then suddenly the place was full of scary people in Floyd t-shirts. I guess some of them were you lot.
Considering I wasn't drinking (am finishing a course of antibiotics at the mo) and was absolutely terrified about performing I had fun. Highlights for me were Stu's audience participation version of Careful..., Black Bobble's quite alarming rendition of Waiting for the Worms and the whole of Swedish Whistler's set. I'm going to annoy a few people by admitting that I really didn't care for Breathe's set though. A little too long, too considered, way too loud and unpleasantly shrill. Although the female singer/saxophonist and the guitarist were definitely highly talented, I felt they lacked the essential soul and groove of the band they were covering, even if they did hit all the right notes. Sorry guys, I didn't dig it.
Unfortunately I got very swiftly whisked away to someone's birthday party during a really enjoyable version of Gotta Be Crazy (it was that, wasn't it? or is my memory playing tricks on me again?) by the band that followed Swedish Whistler and as a consequence didn't catch the remainder of the acts. I should also apologise to Jonesy's crew who heard the magic word "party" followed by some earnest back pedalling (I was sternly advised by my sister that I wasn't allowed to invite anyone else along) but as it turned out it was a very gentle affair in a tiny flat in Hove and it was winding down by the time we left at 2am, so wouldn't have really cut it as an aftershow blow-out.
After a good night's (and morning's) sleep and a solid wander round Brighton headed off to the Pressure Point to catch the Originals night, which I also enjoyed thoroughly. Everyone was very good (bar one very annoying heckler who thankfully got swiftly escorted from the room by security) so I couldn't possibly pull out any highlights... oh go on then:
Swedish Whistler's Obscured by Clouds cover (I can never remember the bloody titles on that album.) The only reason I wasn't clapping at the end was because I got distracted by the sight of someone lowering a rucksack from the lighting rig to the side of the stage. Had a good chat with the guitarist afterwards, which was nice.
Black Bobble's football chant (despite technical difficulties and the unwanted attentions of a rather worse for wear student) which I think could be a hit single if he cared to put it out there into the world. Sadly I mistook Stu's bandmate for him post-gig (I assumed he must have changed out of his suit) which caused no end of confusion, whereupon I was swiftly whisked away and was out of there and halfway home by the time the gf pointed out my mistake. Oh well.
Stu's set was very enjoyable (if regrettably truncated) as was Non-Believer's, who stormed through a load of their songs with much gusto and enthusiasm. All in all a very entertaining and absorbing evening. It was just a shame that there weren't more people there to enjoy it.
Good work everyone!
