There is no such thing as a good male version.

No-no-no, of course I'm not competing, but what I mean is a good (just good) version for a male person.

I was looking through that Nick Mason book on the weekend, and started drooling over Rachel in her tight little dress

Anyway, you know Meatloaf did a lot of singing without taking a breath.

(can you believe I have Rachel and Meatloaf in the same post)

With the size of him, I believe he could sing the whole 12 minute version of Bat Out Of Hell in one breath.

Meatloaf implied in an interview that he did it all in one breath...

It's a circular breathing method. Dizzie Gillespie was a master at this technique. Essentially you inhale through your nose while simultaneously exhaling the air you store in your cheeks from your mouth. That's why some wind instrumentalists have those massive saddle bag cheeks. Wikipedia says, (and I highly doubt) that Kenny G played a single note for 48 minutes using this method.

Anyway, it's a method that would not be feasible for a singer.

I saw Rolf Harris explaining how to do this on TV years ago. It was in the context of playing the didgeridoo. How you can train yourself to do it is to fill your mouth with water and then breathe in as you blow the water back out of your mouth. Again, this is not a trick to try on stage at Pink Floyd concerts.

The DSOT version of Great Gig may be my favourite version ever, even though it did not sound much like the album version. Eye and ear candy imo. Ironically, the Venice performance with Rachel was terrible. The worst rendition was Clare Torrey at Knebworth 90.

Agreed. Obviously it's quite a difficult song to attempt to tackle, vocally, but based on the Venice performance, I'm still scratching my head as to how Rachel lucked into that gig. She sounds a bit like one of those noisemakers people blow at New Year's parties.
