Anybody knows Os Mutantes(The Mutants)? They're a very innovative psychedelic band from the late 60's and early 70's, and were similar to Barrett's Floyd, but with a Brazilian mood. People like Belle & Sebastian, Beck and Sean Lennon are great fans. Arnaldo Baptista, the Keyboard player, bassist and vocalist is a musical genius, and he's considered the Brazilian Syd Barrett (in all senses!). Everybody who likes early Floyd should be listen this amazing band.
By the way, Ricky Martin is from Puerto Rico, look around your atlas and you'll see that it's not in South America!
