If we're talking about Syd's time with Pink Floyd, then for me it would have to be his guitar playing on the version of "Vegetable Man" recorded for the BBC in December 1967. And in his solo career, the backwards solo on "Dominoes" really does take some beating.
And BTW "Random Precision" really is well worth picking up. It's a great overview of Syd's musical career, and also contains the most detailed (and certainly sad) description we're likely to get of Syd's sessions at Abbey Road in August 1974.
All the mainstream music shops are open on bank holidays in the UK. It's mainly just banks that are closed.
Anyway, if you pre-order it online, the chances are that you'll receive it before the release date, as online sellers usually despatch it as soon as it comes into stock.
