So.

The show was really good apart from a few hick ups. During Stardeath's set the fire alarm went off and we had to all leave - we waited outside for half and hour before being let back in. Stardeath came back on and finished their set. they were better live than than we expected as their album sounds a bit weak. As usual the band came on and set up thier equipment - the stage was a big arc simular in shape to the floyds division bell tour stage and at the start of the show the band entered through a big throbbing vigina. Wayne then appeared in the space ball and walked/rolled across the audience. The set list was:
Race For The Prize
Silver Trembling Hands
The Yeah Yeah Yeah Song
Fight Test
Morning of the Magicians
Convinced of the Hex
Evil
See the Leavers
Yoshimi
Pompeii
The W.A.N.D
Do You Realize

Wayne used the gong during Pompeii and during Evil Kliph the drummer was sticking a lead in his mouth to produce a buzzing sound. The wand was mind blowing with so many strobes that a couple of people had fits. This delayed the restat amd they finished with do you realize. As ever there were more ballons and confetti than you could shake a stick at.

Went to the Birmingham show last night - it was absolutley packed. An equally good show with the same format and set list with the addition of jelly.

don't get all this Flaming Lips hype. Just because they did re-record DSOTM, it don't make em any special. All they can do is covers.

The flaming lips have been going since the 80s and have consistently varied their sound since day one. As far as i know their recent dark side cover is the only officially released cover they have ever done (although they do the odd cover song at gigs). I'm not a huge fan myself, though i think their period between 1995 or so up until and including the album At War With the Mystics is a fantastic block of music, so you should check some of it out

You need to wake up and smell the coffee - the flaming lips have picked up the mantle that good ol' PF dropped a long time ago. They are progressive and willing to experiment in new areas
