"Someday I'll Take The Time For The Memories In My Mind"-cwta eugene

What a cool song title! That's great.

Thanks, Idisaffect, hopefully the song will soon see the light of day. Here are the orignal lyrics. They have since been changed a bit so it's not so obviously about Syd.

Someday I’ll take the time, for the memories in mind
I’ll take me out some paper and a pen,
And I’ll dust off my guitar, the one with mirrors that shine like stars
And make the world a love song once again,

Someday I’ll put to bed, all the demons in my head
I’ll take a record out and play myself The Gnome,
Instead of hiding from the knocks, I’m gonna take off all those locks
And I will open up the door into my home,

Someday I might just sing out loud, I’ll hold my head up and be proud
And welcome back the smile I once wore,
I’ll grow back out my hair and let it curl without a care
And find some paint that I can spread upon the floor,

Someday I’ll take the time, for the memories in mind
I’ll walk myself to where we used to play,
The Roundhouse will be standing tall, and UFO and All Saints Hall,
And we’ll all dance again to Games for May,

Someday I’ll call that Eskimo, the pretty girl I used to know
And ask her then if she’ll become my wife,
Someday I’ll take the time, for all these memories in my mind
If not in this one, then perhaps the afterlife?

cwta eugene wrote:In reading a recent Mojo magazine article, supposedly Syd showed up at a drug dealers house with no shoes on, his feet bleeding everywhere, before a Top Of The Pops performance. The rest of the band found where he was and litterally had to drag him to the performance. There is a picture of the performance in Inside Out and, if I remember right, Syd doesn't have any shoes on. He is sitting down on what looks like pillows or something. So I thought about the line in Jugband Blues:

I'm grateful that you threw away my old shoes (where were his shoes?) and brought me here instead dressed in red (reference to the blood?)

Is he specifically referring to this incident? Did somebody in the band really throw away his old shoes?
no
jugband blues is a complex brew
it is simply syd giving his good byes
some part of him saw his own future down fall

the line you refer to is about syd and his art
he is trying to say to his bandmates
that he is happy in his old torn clothes
he is happy to never play a song twice the same way

he did not like the whole rock star lip sync top o pops shite ..
he is saying >> whats the point ??
years later roger got it .

this by far is a great song . think of the sad story about syd life .. and then having a song that syd himself that talks about it all .that gives his side of the story .

>> i wonder who could be writing this song >>>
syd is crying out ..i am still here ... i am ..

his child like wonder of
>>i never knew the moon could be so big ..so blue >>

did anyone ever think syd just wanted a hug ???

peace

9

ps

and the two of the most profound lines ever

what exactly is a dream ???
what exactly is a joke ???

syd burned as bright as a star gone nova

A very nice observation, but I doubt the two things are related... The song was written before the performance, right?

I find a problem with the interpretation concerning the line, "I'm grateful that you threw away my own shoes and brought me here instead dressed in red."

If he was writing about them pushing him out of the group and sacrificing him, why would he be grateful? It doesn't add up.

i hope all the OFF topic stuff is over
this song is god level
------------------
many fans would feel offended by this tom foolery
===================
>>>>>> breaking down this song in to 3 parts >>>>
PART 1
It's awfully considerate of you to think of me here
And I'm much obliged to you for making it clear that I'm not here.
And I never knew the moon could be so big
And I never knew the moon could be so blue
And I'm grateful that you threw away my old shoes
And brought me here instead dressed in red
And I'm wondering who could be writing this song.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
this syd way of writing on this song is unique. for syd
for the world ... syd seems to be trapped in some fuzzy zone
band mates are complaining that he is not there ..spaced out..
syd questions his bands values against his own ..
limes 1 and 2 and 5 6 7
all the commercial aspects of rock seekin stardom shite
line 3 and 4 syd may be saying that he can still see the wonderment of it all .. how sad yet ..........lines 3 and 4 really ripp roger bad in a way .. roger has lost site of simple every day beauty
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
2ND PART >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I don't care if the sun don't shine
And I don't care if nothing is mine
And I don't care if I'm nervous with you
I'll do my loving in the winter.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
syd rails against all .. mostly himself .. mostly he wants some warmth ..whether he could feel it at this point is moot
syd is happy to be alone . he doesn;t need money or objects
yet a second feelin has creeped in to the song
one of endless despair sadness ..
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
part 3
And the sea isn't green
And I love the Queen
And what exactly is a dream
And what exactly is a joke.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

the last two line are so profound
they mean so much to all in all ways
syd simply questions humanity
questions we dare not ever attempt to ..........
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

jug band blues
syd auto-biographical song that nails his life better than any shite book about him

don't fuck with syd
or his works

In the book Pink Floyd The Early Years, it mentions that Syd had very wide flat feet, so he often did not have laces (sometimes using elastic bands to keep his shoes on) or walked barefoot...

I'm sorry if my joke offended you, but I see no need to be so dramatic about it. I have defended Syd's work to many a people in my time and consider him to be a source of personal inspiration in my own song writing.

What is important for people to remember is that this song was created in a time of severe emotional desperation by a person who was in bad need of help and was screaming for it. Unfortunately, those pleas were not heeded and he was simply "not picked up" one night rather than supported and helped in the way he deserved from anyone who claimed to care for him.

The sad fact though is that not a one of the other band members, nor anyone else associated with him for that matter, cared enough to help him in the way he needed, or at least even try.

As far as fucking with him or his work is concerned, I know more about it and can relate to it better than most, having had the same type of mental problems and disconnectedness. Fortunately for me, I had people around me at the time who loved me, cared for me and helped me get the help I needed. They supported me all the way through it and I am fine now as a result. Otherwise, I would have ended up in the gutter, the hospital, jail or dead.

So if you want to criticize people for "fucking" with him and his work, then why do you idolize people like Roger Waters who left him high and dry after he put Pink Floyd on the map, said "fuck it" and told the driver to keep going and then took over the band, reaped the benefits of stabbing a friend in the back when he was weakest, then used the group for his personal agenda to the point where it just simply collapsed slowly like a flan in a cupboard?

I'm not trying to spread Roger hatred here, don't get me wrong. My point is that it is too easy for people to judge some while exonerating others.
