If you are referring to me, then I suggest you re-read my posts because what I actually said is that I am annoyed at the same subject being beaten to death for 40 years.

If you are not referring to me and are just speaking of people in general, then it is true that most get annoyed at politics, as well as religion for that matter. That's because most people aren't happy unless everyone is living the way they are told to and everyone loves their country and Jesus.

I believe Roger's melodies and lyrics are weak because he is straining to write the same old stuff. Some things, however good of a message they may contain, do not work well as songs.
still cranky ???lol

dude
simply put roger has said all he wants to say
i don't think he is straining at all
L B may not be your cup of tea
but i feel its a wonderful song
concerning politic's in music i agree
EXCEPT w/ TFC AMD and LB FF roger pulls it off

the meat of L B is a letter roger wrote mom while on vac when he was 19
so i am lost at your thoughts .

as for same old stuff ??? i do not agree
roger is ever changing
the so called pink floyd sound is a asine line coined when david in 84 mtv interview
spoke about trying to get back to the old sound [[not tfc ]]
what sound i wonder ?? more piper wall wywh animals secrets ahm meddle
there all not the same

bp roger also likes to let his words standout with small or no backing melodies
the song IF is one example

peace dude

so its not so much an old man rerehashing things he's already said
its more like the prototype of what he would make a career of saying later on in life
in that alone its a valuable insight into where rogers philosophy came from and how it has evolved

Yeah, I'm not getting much rest and it is starting to take its toll on my nerves. I am too jumpy. I'm gonna sign off for a while and try to get some sleep. I apologize for the harsh tone of my post.

It's a rhetorical question...

I actually liked the live version more because of all those instrumental parts and solos where the narration should go. And the narration itself was not thrown away, it made the storyline for the "comic book" back screen projections. I only think that the people in the audience who first encountered with 'Leaving Beirut' in concert may have misunderstood the "comic book" plot.

To misunderstand/not get the message of the song you'd have to be willfully stupid....surely

To misunderstand the "comic" plot you would not have to be stupid, all it would take would be the fact you haven't heard the song and the narration before. A lot of people I've spoken with after the Budapest show said they got the idea and the message of the song, but didn't get anything from the "comic" back screen projection and its connection to the song.

That's a damn good point, Hudini! It is often good to leave things to the imagination and let the listener draw his or her own conclusions as to the end of the story. It helps the song to mean something unique to each and every person who listens to it.

As far as I go, though, I just can't get into it. While giving credit where it's due for the rhetorical ending, I just don't like the song very much. I have tried to acquire a taste for, as I have had to do for certain other of Roger's works, but I just don't care for it at all.

I dont think Roger is inviting listeners to imagine their own subjective ending to the story
he's leaving us with a choice as to what part we will play in this story, as its a story thats still unfolding all around us and our day-to-day consumer and voting behaviour is a factor in the story's resolution

Ah, I see. That's even better, seeing it in the first person perspective all the way through.

That is the best analysis on this topic so far.
No surprise.
