Why spoil an already good forum with something which can be abusive

Re: Signatures on the NPF Forum Discussion
i agree with the including signatures, it adds a little more character in your posts, though i do also believe that they should have pixel limits, as no-one wants to have to keep reading massive sig every time someone posts - especially if someone is only using modem based browsing - to paraphrase Rtn.
thing is - i thought we already had provision for text based signatures in our profiles - do we really need those gaudy image based ones soaking up space on the server- the pixel and size limit would have to be fairly strictly set to prevent that -

The way I look at it...if you want a "visual signature," that's what your avatar is for.
Signatures should be text only, imo. I think that'd be a good rule to implement, myself.

Re: Signatures on the NPF Forum Discussion
Will the "do not show signatures" option always be on for me or will I have to apply it each time I log in? I would hate that. I was thinking about joining a Pearl Jam forum, but it was way too busy. I don't want the same thing happening here.
I'm a simple guy on a simple forum and I'd kinda like things to stay that way. I guess you could say I'm a bit like Homer Simpson- "I like my TV loud, my Beer cold, and my homosexuals flaming."

I'm presuming it would stay switched off once it is changed in your profile, just like the 'hide my online status' thing does.cwta eugene wrote:Will the "do not show signatures" option always be on for me or will I have to apply it each time I log in? Anyway, to the people complaining, are you not paying attention to the fact that it can be turned off for you if you don't like it? I honestly don't see how anybody can vote for 'no' when there is an option to get rid of them for yourself and allow the people who like them to continue seeing them.

Re: Signatures on the NPF Forum Discussion
That would be quite funny.
No really, though, suppose I post something in the "Happening In The News" thread to this effect:
Today I found out that a serbian teenager unloaded a gun into six people at a local eatery I frequent. One man, helping his wife out of the car in the parking lot, was shot from behind, tearing his ear off before another bullet went through his arm pit and towards his heart, severing the Aorta, leaving him bleeding to death in his wifes arms. (This story is true and I posted about it a couple years ago).
And then I follow it up with something like:
"And I like my homosexuals flaming!"
Just kinda ruins the vibe I was going for doesn't it?

Re: Signatures on the NPF Forum Discussion
If I did allow signatures, there would be no images, no links, no BBCode and just 50 characters of text allowed. No smileys either!
My two issues with signatures are 1) the additional bandwidth for users and the server resources and 2) they can distract from the thread in question.
There is currently no overwhelming desire to have them so I don't think we will bother.

Sounds all good, but 50 characters is very very short.Keith Jordan wrote:If I did allow signatures, there would be no images, no links, no BBCode and just 50 characters of text allowed. No smileys either!

Re: Signatures on the NPF Forum Discussion
We had them on here when I first joined as far as I remember and they weren't too intrusive, but I prefer it without them. As we have the option to turn them off I don't see the problem with re-introducing them.

Re: Signatures on the NPF Forum Discussion
I agree with enabling the, restricting them and allowing the option to disable them. Personally i wouldn't use one, but i can appreciate that a lot of members will, and if i only see them out of choice then i got no probs with them being enabled

Re: Signatures on the NPF Forum Discussion
There is not an overwhelming desire for signatures so the difference between the yays and the nays does not justify the extra effort on my part in introducing signatures.
So.... not sigs!
