I listened to Madcap all the way through and the bonus tracks in early December 2009...I won't make a comment about what I think of the quality of the album, as that was not the original question in this thread. Why some need to express their negative comments in yet another Syd thread is beyond me...you did it already in recent months...we know your opinions...no wonder the pitchforks need to come out.

Re: When did you last listen to a Syd Barrett solo album?
I like pretty much all of Syd's solo stuff (mind you unfinished tunes like Birdy Hop leave me a bit cold)...I simply listen to the songs and try to imagine the potential they could have reached had their author not been so damaged that he was unable to take them to that level. Kinda like looking at an unfinished painting and trying to imagine what it would have looked like had the artist been able to complete it.

"It's important that the world is reminded what a total genius he was" David Gilmour talking about Syd in the new issue of Mojo.
Dig it, Alan ?

I'm sure Gilmour doesn't make a penny of any release relating to Syd of course...

Catchy and Quirky yes! Actually I like David Gilmour's version of Dominoes. Some of Syd's stuff really has a 1940s/1950s musichall pastiche thing going on... Very George Fornby and the like. Thats quite nice I guess. Very innocent.

I quite like David Gilmour's interpretations of Syd's songs. They don't sound as flat or something.

I didn't like Gilmour's version of Dark Globe; he has the poshest singing voice ever in it

Re: When did you last listen to a Syd Barrett solo album?
My oldest friend had an aneurism Jan 25. When we were 15 we bought Syd's double album. Been playing it ever since. NOTHING stands up to PATGOD, but we realize how unique Syd is. To answer your question Neil, whenever I can, now that my friend is sick. Keeps my mind off unpleasant things. His name is Jimmy, he's 46 & we go all the way back to 2nd grade when we both had the same Nuns teaching us. Syd fans, I ask that you keep a good thought for my best friend.......Thanks

Wow a lot of negative anti-Syd vibes here. If you don't like Syd's solo albums you can get out! I joined this forum just because I saw this thread. I'm in Alaska and went for a walk today (I'm in the rainforest so when its sunny I always walk) and listened to the whole of the Madcap Laughs. I don't really care what anybody says about it, its hauntingly incredible.
