I've never been to Pompeii myself, but I'm pretty sure that the curators there will allow you to bring in a guitar with you as long as you don't play it. The custodians at most of the historic places I've been (including Roman and medieval forts in Serbia, palaces in Venice and castles in southern France) consider even loud talking an act of vandalism against the monuments. If I were you, I wouldn't be pushing my luck with singing, there may even be fines for that. I believe that your future Mrs. wouldn't like it very much if you were arrested while asking her to marry you, though it would make a great story for your grandchildren.

What surprised me about Pompeii was how much freedom there was to wander about almost anywhere. They may be paying the price for that though. There's been media coverage of neglect of the site recently after some of it collapsed.
