Everyone seems to be forgetting that the Immersion box sets have the quad mixes. I think I might be more excited for them than for the live material... or at least about the same.
As for picking one, I already have DSotM Immersion pre-ordered, but I'll be picking up WYWH and The Wall Immersion sets when they come out. I'd probably go with DSotM if I had to choose.

Being as they lost loads af money putting on the original shows in '80 I think we could assume that it didnt come out well, otherwise they would have released a video at the time. Didn't I read somewhere that there would be a clip of the final animated part of the show included in the upcoming set? Seems a bit strange. Why dont they just give us the original print of the animation itself, then I could project it on my own wall!my breakfast. wrote:I personally think there will be no '80 or '81 Wall footage in any context other than a few clips in an interview or documentary Making Of feature. I don't think they can get the angles and quality of footage they want. Roger sees The Wall as a current and relevant feature (if you will) so therefore won't let old archive footage do it a disservice because the angles are naff, the projectors are flickery etc etc... the band are still not quite at the museum stage they still think they have a current product.
I think I would have to wait to hear what will be on the two, as yet unspecified discs in the Wall, before I made a choice.
Dont think I would buy Dark Side as I already have the SACD and the dvd documentary of the making, plus live versions of most of the songs.

I can see why a serious collector would get all three, but - speaking as a casual PF fan who likes buying boxed sets - there seems at present to be little compelling reason to buy any of them for their musical content. The Wall is probably the album that I would be most interesting in, er, immersing myself in, but I'm not sure what quality of demoes would need to be on the extra discs to justify the purchase.
As for the other contents: well, "perfect bound" sounds great on the book, but it's the cheapest way of binding a book with a glue spine ... I don't know why they're so proud of it! Even a simple stapled booklet would have more longevity. To be honest, the Quadrophenia super-deluxe boxed set seems to be about to do a similar thing rather better (hardback book, NO SCARF!!!!! ) ... and it's also cheaper ...

What's up with all these super deluxe sets?

kids dont pay for the contemporary music they listen to
but aging baby boomers have income to burn and can be relied on to pay over $100- for an album they already own with a few bonus tracks a scarf and a marble

There's just no pleasing some fans
And I'm a "kid" who'll be buying all of them. I don't pirate music.

Appearently 2012 will mark not only the end of the world but the end of the music industry distribution format/business as we know it. If we have read the signs right.Jack Wolf wrote:What's up with all these super deluxe sets?

It's a funny thing for a former tracker mod to say, don't you think?jambo wrote:I don't pirate music.

Well why did the band management ban them then?

They don't like to see people getting happy for free with their client's music.
But I agree with Jambo, there's a big difference between pirating (selling commercially available products without the artist involvement) and trading unreleased not commercially available recordings.
The record industry doesn't like to make the difference, mainly because they are greedy bastards that view everything as a lost opportunity for making more money. They would charge people for singing some artist's tune in the shower, if they could.
Trading bootlegs is like taking a picture of a famous painting and sharing it then with all your friends. What's wrong with that? It's even more justified, because it just happens that, unlike a painting, your friends can't go to a museum and watch the concert for themselves, it's a "musical happening" that is never going to repeat again.

Because they are money-grubbing assholes who are about 20 years behind on what 'classic rock' actually meants and perpetually have a stick up their ass. They blocked the site from having a tracker about 5 years ago and are only just putting wee shitty snippets of live gigs on the megabux box set stuff coming out next year. Good job!
