I feel that OAI shows musical maturity and a more relaxed Gilmour than the other two albums. He's going in more of a bluesy/folky, Knopfler-esque direction that I think he does well and is an honest expression of who Gilmour is now. He is not caught up in the past. He could very well take the new album in a more extreme variation on that style, or even go in a completely new direction altogether. Compare that to Roger Waters, who stays in basically the same conceptual area as The Wall/The Final Cut, though he does that well.
